Affidavit of support co-sponsor question

My dad said he will gladly co sponsor my fiancé, but he recently started a new teaching job and makes around $33000 a year. Before that he was unemployed/working odd jobs for a few years and did not meet the requirements.

I heard somewhere that you need 3 years tax returns. If this is true, then my dad will not have the proof.

Will this be enough to get my fiancé here?

Most recent tax transcript, letter from employer and/or recent pay stub(s). If he does not have any tax returns, then he should include a statement as to why he did not legally have to file. However, some consulates do not insist on tax returns with the I-134, so it depends on the consulate. They are not all the same.

Your timeline is not filled in, so if you have not even filed the I-129F petition yet, the financials are not needed just yet. They are needed at the K-1 visa interview later.

Ok thank you, i already mailed in the I-129F and got the first NOA 2 days ago. I was just trying to get ahead and see what I needed later on. I was worried because I heard somewhere that they wanted 3 years tax returns for the I-134, but I never saw that in the instructions.

My only concern was that his job is new, he started in September 2013. I didn't know if that was enough time to show proof of income.

Well, he will have been at the job for over 6 months when you interview, so that is a plus. Have him provide a letter from employer and most recent pay stubs to prove his current income. Hopefully his current income will outweigh low past income, but it is possible that it will not. The CO will look at the totality of your case before deciding if they believe the foreign fiance(e) will become a public charge or not. It is solely up to them. If you have another choice for a co-sponsor with a more stable, ongoing income, then I would use them instead. If not, you can only hope for the best with what you have.
