Not sure this is in the right section, Mods should feel free to move it.

My wife just called me after her interview. They said they have neither denied nor approved her due to the fact that i dont have a standing job offer and rental contract. What i dont understand is my father had agreed to joint sponsor her and he has more than sufficent income to cover all of us. I need to read the information they sent with her when i get home, but is this normal? Do they normally insist on a job offer in hand even when you have a joint sponsor?

So I got home and read over the paperwork. Apparently I did not do enough to establish or show intent to establish domicile. All other criteria has been met and this is the only thing holding us back from the looks of it. From what my wife is saying, the women said i need to have an apartment lined up and cannot plan to use my parents address upon arrival in the USA. Now that i need to resubmit this information I am curious of what i can do when i am still under contract for my current job overseas. The contract ends in two months, but we would like to move together. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I'm curious how long it took in Bangkok doing DCF. How long was it from filing the I-130 with USCIS in Bangkok to the interview?

I submitted the initial paperwork to the consulate Janruary 13th if I recall correctly. They had our mailing address wrong (inverted the numbers) and we also needed to wait an extra week or two for my fathers I-864 paperwork in the mail. They were actually quite helpful and quick.

My biggest question at the moment is once we submit the requested paperwork, if they deny it again are we finished or is there a chance they would come back and give us a third chance? Basically, we are now debating on submitting a rental agreement, car recently purchased in my name, insurace for said car, continued voter registration, drivers license, and job applications. My only worry is they still deny this and then we need to start again from scratch. Or should I move back first and get physical presence first? If we try to submit and they say no but I can gain physical presence afterwards then its a no brainer and we will submit what we can gather in the next month, but if that would then make it a final decision we are nervous about doing this. Obviously me moving back first would be a more sure bet, but we dont want to live apart for 2-3 months if we dont need to.

Can anyone answer the question in bold?

how come you can't live with your parents? I mean most people do that right?

This is strange for me as well. The officer specifically said I need to rent an apartment for her. My wife was honestly a bit offended. Later as she was telling me she asked "what am I, a dog." Very strange we cannot live with my parents/cosponsors until i find a more permenent setting.

Interesting. I knew DCF moved quickly, but good to know actual time frames. It would be good if you filled out your timeline in your profile.

We got a 211g at our interview, and gave them more info. They still wanted more. We gave them the additional info and they approved us.

I'm going to ask a mod to move this to the DCF forum here so you'll get better answers.

What exactly did you furnish as proof of your intent to reestablish domicile?

Perhaps the CO was giving your wife ideas of things that would work rather than a necessity. Did you submit a signed lease from your parents guaranteeing you that you'll be allowed to live there?

3/2/18  E-filed N-400 under 5 year rule

3/26/18 Biometrics

7/2019-12/2019 (Yes, 16- 21 months) Estimated time to interview MSP office.

Honestly i undersetimated this aspect of the paperwork. on everything else we had mounds of information and supporting documents but for the domicile i simply submitted bank and credit card statements with my parents address and a letter of intent to stay with them. looking back i should have had a lease agreement and transfered a car with insurance in my name as those would have been easily done.

again, my main concern at the moment is if we submit documents and they dont believe its enough will they outright deny the application or will it stay open for us to prove physical presence later on?
