Picked the US as "country of citizenship" by mistake

Hi everyone,

I moved to another state six months ago. I reported the change of address online within 10 days, printed the completed AR-11 form out but didn't double check it.

Today I looked at it and discovered that in the "country of citizenship" box I picked "United States of America" instead of my home country.

That's a mistake. I think they should not include United States of America in the list because how can a permanent resident has the USA as her/his country of citizenship?

I'm a little bit worried what they'll accuse me of pretending to be a US citizen, which I did not.

What do you guys think?

Thank you.

(Double post by accident, but not allowed to delete it)

Seems to happen more than once, in particular in states where the DMV also takes care of voters registration. And with this, not necessarily your fault. Also with employment applications and with banks or anything to do where your citizenship is in question. Can't think of any others where we ran into this.

Just made darn sure I was with my wife and stepdaughter with these applications so no mistakes were made. Would really be in deep trouble if you voted, even in a local election. This disturbed me somewhat if you live in a city where they want to spend a bunch of money for some stupid thing, increase your property taxes, and as a LPR paying taxes and all this, you don't even have a say in these matters. But is the law.

If you voted, already dead meat, if not, go back to that agency and get it corrected, ASAP.

Ha, in dealing with city and state clerks, ask them if they ever heard of the USCIS? Usual response is, don't you mean the NCIS, that TV propgram.

Yes, I feel terrible. This happened when I was dealing with the USCIS themselves, not a DMV or city hall clerk. I reported the change of address on the USCIS website, that AR-11 form is for what they call "aliens" only. Why on earth is the United States of America on the country of citizenship list? If that was my country of citizenship why would I be filling out this form?

It's like a trap. Here's the printout (I erased most of the personal information). Ridiculous! On the ALIEN'S CHANGE OF ADDRESS CARD, a PERMANENT RESIDENT has this country as her/his COUNTRY OF CITIZENSHIP! It doesn't make any sense.

I've been waiting to call the USCIS since last night. It's still more than half an hour before their open time.

By the way, I do know this is a serious matter, and i would never vote. I just don't know why the stupid mistake happened. I guess I had just got divorced, was all distraught, and moved across the country, and the pressure of reporting the change of address within 10 days. Most of the permanent resident friends I know never reported their change of address even though they've moved many times during their permanent residence here. But I just wanted to do the right thing, and ended up screwing them up.

However, I do think they'll believe it was just a glitch and will correct it for me. Why would I lie anyway?

No, it isn't. USC sponsors for I-864 are also supposed to report change of address - aren't they ?

"U.S. Citizens

U.S. citizens are not required to file a Form AR-11 and can make a change of address on pending cases via our Online Change of Address page or by calling 1-800-375-5283. U.S. Citizens who do not have an application or petition pending with USCIS are only legally required to notify USCIS of a change of address if they have previously submitted a Form I-864 on behalf of someone who has become a permanent resident. If you have previously submitted a Form I-864 for someone who immigrated to the U.S., you must complete a Form I-865 within thirty days of the completion of your move."
