Wedding date forecasts, rather than invitations. Creative approach with question.

I thoroughly understand the recommendation on the board to not make concrete wedding plans until the visa is in hand. Completely!

However, I would like some practical information about when we can be more and more confident about our date.

- My fiancee and I will have a church wedding. We have spoken to the priest and he has agreed to do a last minute weddding with only a week's notice if necessary.

- We will have a simple reception at a relative's house, but with ~60 people. Thus deposits, etc, are not relevant.

The only relevant consideration to me is the notice I give my guests. We have the following plan A, with a backup plan B:

Plan A: Wedding in Chicago (where most of my family lives). Invite everyone to ceremony and have reception same day at relative's house.

Plan B: Have lightning fast wedding in Minneapolis, invite everyone but expect very few to be able to attend. Have reception a few weeks later.

I plan on issuing a wedding invitation with wedding forecasts. Like when I get the NOA2, I can issue invitations with a "50% chance of wedding on X date". And when we get the interview, we can calibrate the date and issue a 75% chance of wedding. When we get the interview approved, we can say 95%, and so on. With the understanding that everything may collapse and we will go with Plan B.

My questions then are how can I determine these percentages? Have any of you done anything like this? I just want a practical understanding of the *probable* situation at each step. The frustrating thing about reading all the posts about wedding planning is the reflexive: DON'T DO IT response. But one can be more creative than that, I think!

As a guest, I'd find this really annoying.

Care to elaborate?

Care to elaborate?

Is there a wedding on this date or not? Do I have to save this date or not? Should I buy those great concert tickets for that weekend or not?

Fair point. In any case, it would be nice to know what the probabilities are so we can at least decide when the best time to notify everyone else is (even if it's just one forecast).

Many cases after approved go to administrative processing, that can take few days, months or year.

So the best plan is have the interview, get approved , get visa in hand and then make all weding plans.

I know one person that had everything ready for her weding on march 15.

her fiance had his interview on fefruary 14 he was approved, but his case was under ap, and on february 21 he got call from embassy to go on monday 24.

He went and he was denied, embassy found sonething wrong with him.

So follow the embassy rules:

Dont make plan until visa in hand.

When your fiancé has the visa in hand, then set a date. The visa will be valid for 6 months (from either the interview or the medical, depending on your country), and then you have 90 days to marry once your fiancé enters the US. So wait for the visa, then set a definite date within the following 9 months.

As somone else said, don't inconvenience ~60 people because you are unsure of a date. If it's important to you that all attend, then have your fiancé wait in their country after visa has been issued so appropriate notice can be given. If it's more important to you to marry quickly, then give short notice, and those that can attend, will.

I don't know... I kinda think that maybe theming the whole thing in a "weather forecast" theme could be kinda fun... I am weddi g photographer and have seen all sorts of themes that turned out to be fun ( however the pirate boat walk the plank thing turned into a terrible idea, in case you were thinking that)...lol... Or even a Vegas themed thing showing "odds" and stuff... Perhaps I am wierd, but it is your day, do,what you like... I say Make it fun! Make it memorable!

We were the couple who were really confident that we will get the visa and get married on the date we have set. The wedding stuffs being planned a year before the wedding. When we got NOA2 on May 2013, we sent out the Save The Date and booked flight to US, it all happened before interview. When we got the visa on August 2013 we sent out the wedding invitation. Wedding on October 2013.
oh yes, we sacrifice everything. We Prayed, we did fasting every Sabbath (Saturday) and did vows to God. Our faith is strong and we only lean on God and believe that God will work on the visa. And He did.
I write this not to tell you to do what we did without any preparation. We prepare prayers fasting and vow to God when we started the visa journey.

You cannot forecast as such,

till you have visa in hand.

that means the visa inside the passport arrives to your hand.

not a ceac status of 'issued', at all.

passport in hand, then you can forecast,

as

you now have full control over any date.

Prior to this seminal event,

you have no control,

as

the queues at USCIS change up all the time. You cannot even rely on historical trends, much less what the open/close rate was last month for adjudication on yer own case.

The best you can hope for, is that you :

1. pick the venue and send the announcements then

2. go the interview then

3. once yer landed in the USA , make the announcement for the date.

I wish I had other 'news' for you, but there is none.
