Got question for folks...if a person enters the USA on student visa is it possible to get permanet status, is the student allowed to work? If their spouse comes with them, is the spouse allowed to work? Also would this person be allowed to enter the US military? Can you guys answer these questions for me please. Thank You

the student cannot instantly work...upon or near graduation, they can do OPT but a student visa is not a work visa. The spouse on an F2 visa cannot work....period. If they are 'proud Ukrainians', they should be more interested in returning to Ukraine than remaining in the US....or at least, that's the rumor.

There is no path from a student visa directly to permenant status. In fact, one must prove she/he will return to their home country if a student visa is granted. It is a non-immigrant visa.

good luck

There is no direct route, indirect routes include marriage.

LOL :D

But yeah, as others said, no you cannot switch directly to permanent status. Why would you do that when applying for a non-immigrant STUDENT VISA? That's called visa fraud for already thinking this way when applying for a student visa. You are kind of out of your mind. And no, you cannot work off campus as the F1 visa holder, only on-campus, and F2 dependents (spouse/kids) cannot work anywhere. OPT after the end of your studies enables you, F1 holder, to work. But if USCIS reads this site they'll sure deny your famous F1 visa for already intending to immigrate while applying for a non-immigrant visa. So don't be surprised if at the Embassy they'll tap you in the shoulder and shoe you out the door...
