On March 6, 2014 I received 4 notices indicating that the following applications were accepted: I-485, I-130, I-131, and I-765.On March 18 we received the Biometrics appointment letter. On March 19 we received an email indicating that a RFE was mailed to us on March 19, 2014. We have not received the RFE. Last night I noticed that the receipt number on the RFE email is different from the receipt number listed on the notice of action for the I-485 application. Should there be 2 different receipt numbers for the I-485 application?

One's probably for the I-485 and the other for the I-765.

It should distinguish which is which when you put in the receipt number on the USCIS website.

I have receipt numbers and notices of action for the I-485 and Work Permit. The day after we received our biometrics appointment letter, we received an RFE email for an I-485. The receipt number in the email is not the same as the receipt number on the notice of action for our I-485. We are trying to figure out if this is an error on the part of USCIS. The RFE email with the different receipt number says that our case will be on hold until we respond to the RFE. We have not received an RFE by U.S. mail.

Thanks to those who responded to my post. My husband and I went to an InfoPass appointment today. The officer told us that email regarding a RFE was sent to us in error. Our case is not on hold. There is only one receipt number for each petition. There should not be 2 different receipt numbers for the same petition. Many users on this site have indicated that it is pointless to call the National Customer Service number for USCIS. They are right. It should not take a trip to a USCIS office to learn that an email was sent to you in error. The officer at USCIS told us that we should have given the customer service rep my husband's A-number instead of a receipt number and the agent could have told us which receipt numbers were associated with our case.
