What is the benefit of signing up for 'Case status updates'?

is there any actual benefit of having a username and signing up for case status updates for a pending K1 visa application? does it give you any actual additional information as opposed to just putting in your receipt number and checking it on the 'my case status' tab?

If there is any update in your petition, then they will send out an email or text. So you dont have to input your receipt number to check everytime.

The benefit is that you don't obsessively check the USCIS site by putting in your case number because the system sends you a message the minute your case is updated.

Many smartphones will show the notification if you have new mail or text now day. It will show on the screen so you don't have to go to your email to refresh them every time. I assume you won't receive new email so often.

It's up to you. I've just seen people get sucked into constantly checking USCIS and CEAC website and it can become unhealthy, mentally. For me, the e-updates were lifesavers because when my phone would ding about three times in a row (I'd always get one email and two texts concurrently), I sort of knew that there was some sort of update to my case.

I recommend you to sign up for updates. For some reason or another USCIS fails to notify you via e-mail or text message, so checking you updates yourself allows you to verify any change.

thanks for replys everyone. i was hoping signing up meant any time someone literally picked up your file even if they put it back down on the pile a moment later you would get an email.. ahh wishful thinking but at least its something. i guess i will just continue to manually put in the number and check everyday. i do already get lots of emails and texts on my phone and i dont want to have a panic attack every time i see my mobile flashing its little green light.
