A lesbian couple accused of starving their three children and chaining their eight-year-old daughter to the wall so she could not get food have had further charges added to the case against them.

Initially charged with felony child endangerment, Eraca Dwan Craig, 31, and Christian Jessica Deana, 44, have now had false imprisonment, child neglect and child abuse added to the laundry list of accusations levelled against

The three children — two boys, aged three and five, and a girl, eight — were found on March 14 at their squalid home in Salinas, California, after two of the children missed scheduled appointments. All three were taken into protective custody and the girl was hospitalized for five days.

Monterey County Sheriff Scott Miller told the Monterey Herald: 'It was a particularly heinous case' and said the children had 'hardly eaten for months', they all showed signs of both physical and emotional abuse.

The girl, who appeared to have suffered the most extreme abuse, was chained to the floor to prevent her from getting any food.

'It seems that the little girl was the major target of this abuse,' Sheriff Miller said, adding that she looked 'like a concentration camp victim'.

Craig and Deanda were both arrested at the scene. Neither appear to have criminal records in Monterey County.

Jeremy Dzubay, the lawyer representing Deanda, said there is a 'wider story to tell' but has not hinted as to any of these details.

Bail was set at $500,000 for each woman and, if they are bailed, they are banned from making any contact with the children.

They were both arraigned in Monterey County Court on Tuesday, March 18, and were scheduled for a preliminary hearing today.

However, the hearing has been postponed and a new date has not yet been set.

Authorities said the women seemed to be making preparations to leave before they were arrested.

Investigators found little food inside the home, which was cluttered and dirty, according to reports.

The girl and the older boy were adopted children, and the younger boy is the biological son of one of the women, Miller said.

Hetero couples would never abuse children. Oh, wait...
Authorities Find 11 Children Locked in Cages

WAKEMAN, OHIO (AP) -- Sheriff's deputies found 11 children locked in cages less than 3½ feet high inside a home, but a couple denied they had abused or neglected the children. A judge on Monday put the children -- who have various disabilities, including autism -- in four foster homes.

They were found in nine cages built into the walls of the house near this small city in northern Ohio, according to the Huron County Sheriff's Office. They had no blankets or pillows, and the cages were rigged with alarms that sounded if opened, Lt. Randy Sommers said. The children told authorities they slept in the cages -- 40 inches high and 40 inches deep -- at night. Doors to some of the cages were blocked with heavy furniture.

Sharen and Mike Gravelle are adoptive or foster parents for all 11 children, officials said. Prosecutors were reviewing the case, but no charges had been filed as of Monday night. "There are several levels of child endangerment, but this could be considered a felony," Sommers said.

A children's services investigator saw one of the children in a cage Friday, Sommers said. The sheriff's office obtained a warrant and returned to the house that evening and removed the children.

What a horrible case of abuse. It's always horrible when parents abuse their children, adopted or otherwise. I hope that these children can get the help they need to move on in life and get past the horror that they have endured. I hope that they can find the power to one day trust people to have their backs.

Agreed. Child abuse is one of the worst crimes. To try and make political capital out of that is absolutely despicable - and as such right down Danno's alley.

I was purposely trying to avoid bringing up the sexuality of the so-called parents until Danno brought it up, because now it'll be 'Why did you bring sexuality into this? I didn't, I just shared the article, but now that you've brought up the topic, homosexuals shouldn't have children!'

It disgusts me that the sexuality of the 'parents' would be up for discussion or mention at all. Child abuse is the single worst thing I can think of short of mass murder outside of a war zone. To deny any child the resources he or she needs in order to grow and flourish is horrific, whether by neglect or malice. I wish that adoptive families were subject to greater scrutiny and I wish that biological families were subject to scrutiny at all. It horrifies me that any two people who can make an innie and an outie get together can have custody of children and no one has the right to check up on them at regular or irregular intervals to ensure the home environment is safe for children.

So why do you do it?

I posted a compelling story with no comment added.... yet you chomp at the bit to turn it into a political mud hole, shame on you, these are real children.

Are you confusing news stories with facts?

Sister, I can do two things without getting them confused.

Do I get a medal for calling what Danno was going to do? Please? Because, uuuuuuh. I totally win.

And yes, these are real children and the sexuality of their parents has nothing to do with the abuse and it is, frankly, an act of disgusting sensationalist journalism that the sexuality of their parents is featured so prominently in the article.

Sure but sometimes a news story can be about facts... such as a recent report on new research.

Some isolated crazy case like this is not facts beyond what they are accused of doing.

Danno, you picked that story for a purpose. And you picked the story with the headline that made sure it was pointed out that it's a lesbian couple that perpetrated the crime. It's not like there was a lack of choices. The choice you made in conjunction with your bigoted post history speaks loud and clear. You might be trying to fool yourself and others here but you sure ain't fooling me.

Search warrant: Salinas girl was chained to wall, starved by 2 women
3 children found starving, 1 chained to floor in California home 3 kids found starving in home, 1 chained to wall

Then perhaps, if you're disgusted by Big Dog's politicization of the so-called parents' sexuality, you should frequent news sites which politicize the sexuality, race or other minority status of people in news stories at a much lower rate of frequency. It seems like your news sites and sources are giving you a rather skewed language set and a high level of sensationalism in every case of a news story you post here.

Might I recommend, strongly, that you change news sites?

Danno only does tabloid journalism and below. They speak his language.
