Changing maiden name to middle name/Biometrics

Ok so I'm a bit worried.

I went for my biometrics today, and my marriage certificate is in my maiden name. When I saw the receptionist entering my info into their database, I saw her type in "____ Kathryn ______", whereas my married name is "_____ Humberston ____". Kathryn was my former middle name, and when I got married, I dropped my former middle name, took my maiden surname as my middle name and my husband's surname as my new last name. I questioned the woman about this, and she looked very confused and asked if I had a court order to change my middle name. She said that I need a court order to change my middle name and "I can ask about it if I get an interview".

When I asked the probate judge when I applied for my marriage license about my name change, she said I didn't have to do anything extra, just get my stuff changed at the DMV/social security office etc. I don't know if she meant just my last name or what. I haven't been able to find anything online saying people in South Carolina need a court order to change their middle name after marriage, and we know a lot of people who haven't. I'm now worried that my EAD/stuff is going to come through with the wrong name and my health insurance/immigration documents have all the wrong name on.

Please can someone give me some advice/info? I've e-mailed the probate court but they're closed till Monday now and I have no idea what's going on or how to fix it.

My wife currently uses my last name and she never applied to probate court. All she did was to sent our marriage certificate and her driver lincense to social security showing her new name and they changed her name on the social security card. The Marriage certificate is a legal document that reflects your new name so I don't think you need to apply at probate court for change of name. I stand to be corrected on this.

It's not the last name that's a problem, it's the middle name.

Some states do not allow you to change anything other than the last name without a court order name change. You would need to call the county clerk where you go your marriage license and ask them if your state allows for the middle name to be changed through marriage.

In SC, the probate judge told me to fill out my marriage license in my maiden name. My certificate is in my maiden name. I've e-mailed the county clerk and probate court to ask what the rules are for South Carolina, as I've been looking for hours and can't find a thing about what the law is here. Is this gonna mess up the name on my EAD/GC now? My NOA1 has Humberston B____ on it as my middle/last name but she put my biometrics info in as Kathryn ____. Do I need to call USCIS to fix it? I've already applied for Obamacare and my health insurance card has my desired name on it too, will it mess that up? :S

So lost :/

Just to update ya'll incase anyone else gets this same issue at some point;

I phoned and e-mailed the probate court again today, and they all said my certified copy of my marriage certificate should have been enough to change my name, and middle name, the way I want it, just as the probate judge told me when I got it. County clerk's office said no idea, contact an attorney. Social security office and DMV office here both also said the marriage certificate should be enough to change my name that way, just as all the women in our family here have done so.

Called USCIS and waited for an hour and a half to talk to a tier 2 IO, she said that everything in their system is in the correct name and it shouldn't matter what the receptionist woman typed in at USCIS Charleston, and that my EAD and GC should all come through in the correct name.

I told you that ever since. Marriage certificate is a legal document and that's what you use to change your name if you want to change it. At least, you know which path to take now.????

All my EAD/AP stuff has come through with the name I filed it in (which now includes my husbands surname). I also changed my SS# name with my EAD and marriage certificate as evidence so they are now all the same.

Can someone maybe help me? Here's my situation: let's say my maiden name is Mary Miller. That's what's on my birth certificate and passport. I never had a middle name or second first name before. My husbands last name is Smith. So then I married an filled in the AOS application like this: Mary as my first name, Miller as my middle name and Smith as my last name.

I got my greencard and everything was printed like I applied for.

When I tried to update my SSN they said even though the card was printed correctly USCIS had me in their system as Mary Miller Miller. So I send a letter to USCIS and they changed it. I went to SSO and DMV and got the SSN and my drivers license like I wanted it. Mary Miller Smith.

Thought: good. Done.

But NOW I got another letter from USCIS that they checked my file and they saw I never had a middle name on my birth certificate so they changed my name in their system to Mary Smith without my maiden name as my middle name.

What I wonder now is: I thought I could just apply in the name I wanted if I never had a middle name before??? I heard lots of people did it this way.

How do I get USCIS to take my maiden name back in their system? Will it be a problem let's say for traveling abroad that I have my name on all my documents differently than USCIS has me in their system??!?

Help would be highly appreciated. THANK YOU
