After spending 6 months living in England with my fiancee, and another 3 weeks with him at home (Chicago), it is now time for him to head back to England and wait for our visa. Our NOA2 should be coming any day *fingers crossed*, but now the hard part begins. I realize I'm lucky to have had so much time with him so far, but it still doesn't make it not suck. I guess I just wanted to share. If anyone has any advice or helpful info on how they got through it, it would be greatly appreciated.

Met online February 2006

Went to England on working visa June 2006

Sent off I-129F October 2006 <3 <3 <3

In England until visa expired December 2006

We leave England for a stateside Christmas December 17, 2006

Karl goes back to the UK January 7, 2007

I make a scene at the airport January 7, 2007

I head back to the UK to wait it out with him February 9, 2007

01-29-2007 NOA2 via e-mail!! Woo Hoo

Good luck and hope you don't have to spend too much time appart (we were 8 months appart during this process and it was BAD).

It's hard but you can make it - and you're fortunate because you should be receiving the NOA2 soon, so after that there is not too much of a wait.

My fiance and I met while I was living in Brazil and we spent 7 months living together and THEN started a long distance relationship. It takes some adjusting but with the NOA2 hopefully around the corner it should be much easier knowing next time is forever.

07/2007 - EAD approved

01/2008 - Conditional Residency approved

11/2009 - Apply to remove conditions

02/2010 - Permanent Residency approved

11/2010 - Apply for Citizenship

03/2011 - Citizenship approved

07/2011 - Moved back to Brazil

Aww, I'd been wondering how you were doing and if you two had had a good Christmas & New Year (like I need to ask!)... can't add anything useful about how to get through the waiting (ugh, sucks) but at least you know your NOA2 should be arriving very very soon. (Ours too, I hope!) Then, hopefully everything should start moving much faster, or feeling like it, anyway, with so much to sort out... I just hope CSC get round to churning out the approvals again next week - I was wishing someone would cancel the holidays so they wouldn't grind to a halt! (Damn it all... if it hadn't been for Christmas, New Year and Gerald Ford's funeral, we might have had 'em already... STUPID holidays! :lol: )

Anyway... it's going to be horrible, especially as you've spent so much time together... but I think time seems to go quicker than you think, when you look back, even if it doesn't feel that way at the time!

Hope you're okay... is good to see you back on here!! Feel free to moan at me about the waiting anytime... oh, and fingers crossed for those NOA2s! :) :) :)

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

All I can say is good luck and hopefully the time will pass faster than imagained. I'll be in the same situation soon - I've been seeing Jamal every week since 2004 since he moved to England and I moved in with him at the end of 2005 until he had to return to the US in October - I joined him in November and my flight is booked back to the UK on the 20th Jan. So it'll be crazy! I'm really not looking forward to it! Good luck to you both xxxx

We all understand what it's like. As for how to get through it, I recommend Skype and YIM (or whatever chat program you prefer). They're free ways to stay in contact with your SO. :)

I worked a lot of overtime. :) And did a lot of stuff to distract me from thinking too much about the wait (hobbies, planning the wedding, packing/preparing for the move, etc etc).

Thanks to everyone who wrote back. It just feels good to have people to talk to who understand. Leaving him at the airport was a frickin' tear fest! But I have school and work, and a laptop with wireless, and Skype and Messenger on my phone.... etc, etc, etc, etc!
