Hi everybody,

I am wondering if the embassy in your home country (once it receives paperwork from overseas) will just send you a date for an appointment or do you schedule an appointment with them once you have mailed in all necessary paperwork (police reports, etc...). So pretty much if they send me the packet could I let it sit there for a couple of weeks and then submit everything and then they would give me a date??

Specifically asking because I am planning to travel to the US and be out of the country for a while. We have been waiting for our NOA2 for 5 months and no news, so I want to spend some time with my fiance.

Thank you all and good luck!!

In Canada I will schedule an appointment when I have completed the requirements of packet 3.

Every country is different though, so you might have more success finding a specific answer by posting in your regional forum.

Every country is different. For UAE, the NVC letter instructed me to fill out DS-160 and wait for the further instructions from the US Embassy. I checked the US Embassy website and they were serious about asking all K-1 applicants not to contact them or this will slow the process. So they will contact us once the process the papers. As far as I know we do not even have packets here. Everything done online and we just have to make the medical examination, fill out form DS-160 and bring all the original papers with us.

Follow the instructions on the US Embassy on your country and they will show you what to do in details.

Good luck with your journey.

once you have received the pack 3 and you followed the checklist sending all te required stuff to them, filed the ds 160, done the medical and paid the visa fee, they will send you a date for the interview appointment!

just keep in mind that noa2 is good for 4 months and medical for 6 months.
