Just found this posted on the Amman Jordan Embassy website. This is not good news at all. It doesn't affect everyone, but for some it will be hard.

S SERIES PASSPORT NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL TO U.S.

Effective January 8, 2007, the United States will no longer issue visas in Iraq S series passports or accept

them for admission to the United States.

The G series Iraq passport, which incorporates robust, effective security features, can be used for visas or

travel to the United States. Iraqis with S series passports who wish to travel to the United States should

contact the nearest Iraqi embassy to find out how to obtain a G series passport.

We recognize that this may inconvenience legitimate travelers, but the flaws of the S series passport require

that we immediately end its use for travel to the United States.

FLAWS OF THE S SERIES PASSPORT

The S series passport does not meet international security standards for issuance or design. Sub-standard

security features and a lack of control over production and issuance make the S series passport extremely

vulnerable to alteration, counterfeiting, and impostors. Because of its flaws, the United States has determined

that the S series passport does not establish the bearer's identity and nationality as required under the INA

definition of a passport.

SPECIAL CASES

Lawful permanent residents and holders of certain immigrant visas are exempt from passport requirements and

can enter the United States without passports (9 FAM 42.2 N1 and N3).

Refugees can be admitted to the United States without passports (9 FAM Appendix O, 1505; INA 209©).

What exactly is an S Series passport? I wonder how many people will be inconvenienced by this...

Allah tries his chosen people through many hardships, but those who persevere through adversity, surrendering themselves before the will of Allah, shall be blessed with a superb reward.

-The Prophet Muhammad (SAW), as reported by Anas bin Malik

A time will come when the sky is torn apart; when the stars scatter, and the ocean drains away; and when the graves are tossed about, and laid open. At that time every man will be told what he has done, and what he has failed to do; and every woman will be told what she has done, and what she has failed to do.

-Qur'an, Al-Infitar, Surah 82:1-5

It is the older passport issue in 2004 to the Iraqi citizen by Iraq. I really don't know anything else about it. The passport is labeled S-passport. Someone else may have a better answer. This only affects the Iraqi citizens.
