Hi everyone,

We're still at the dreadful wait stage between NOA1 and NOA2, but would like to understand,

how helpful it was for you during your K-1 interview, in regards the difficultly level of questions from the CO, with your fiance on your side?

My country portal doesn't have much reviews in regards this, so thought of asking this question in general to K-1 filers.

We are going to decide whether or not my fiancé will be joining me for the interview depending on the replies here. As he has limited vacation days, we have to plan ahead according to the interview date.

So, please share your experiences. :D

Thanks in advance.

If you don't know you might want to find out if he can even attend the interview. In China you can't interview together, the sponsor has to wait in a waiting room.

It didn't work out that I (Sponsor) could even be in the Country during the interview and she passed just fine. Just use the time while you are waiting for your NOA2 to get to know each other very well. I found lists of questions others had been asked and we went through those over and over.

I stressed over not being there, but she passed the interview in 5 mins.

Journey so far:

09/14/2012: Sent I-129F Packet

09/21/2012: NOA1 Received

04/22/2013: NOA2 Notice of approval
05/08/2013 NVC Received

06/01/2013 Packet 3 Received

06/04/2013 Packet 3 Sent

06/10/2013 Packet 4 email received

06/27/2013 First Scheduled interview-cancelled (didn't get notarized paperwork in time)

08/12/2013 K-1 interview passed!

08/28/2013 Lili Arrives in the U.S.!!!

10/04/2013 Marriage!!!

03/26/2014 AOS Approved!

04/02/2014 Received GC

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong, and think of what could go right!

Hi Rob & Lili (I'm guessing I'm replying to Rob), :)

Thanks for your reply. :) I will try and find out if my fiancé can attend or not in Nepal Consulate.

Yes, I have also been going through sample questions I found here on VJ. I went through it with my fiancé and he was surprised at how much I knew about him. ;) I knew all of them except the one about whether or not the USC has any criminal record. He doesn't. That was a a relief :P

Can also point me to any links where I can further find more sample questions? :)

Similar to your case, I have read on many of the forums topics here about the 5 - 10 mins interview for K-1. :) I guess I'm just feeling nervous. If they don't allow my fiancé, then I will just take a photo of him and place it somewhere I can see as a token of his presence. Looking at him will calm me down no matter what the situation. :D

LOL, I just read your consulate review. :D About the last question was really funny! I'm actually thinking about what I can say to the CO to get a similar reaction if I get a similar question. ;D

Best wishes to you guys!

From our experience it was very helpful if nothing more than to ease my fiancé for her interview. Moscow did allow me to attend the interview, but not to be part of it. I was sitting a few feet away while it was occurring, and my fiancé chose to do it in English as my Russian is poor. They asked her a few tough questions about two previous visitor visa interviews which were denied, but I felt she was more comfortable with me there that she was able to stay calm and answer honestly and subsequently we were approved.

The other reasons I am glad I was there was to ease my own nervousness, and to be there to experience what I felt to be a life changing event. First of all, I would have been pulling my hair out waiting at home for word. Instead, I was there for what I felt was a momentous event that we will never have to repeat. After the interview both of us were so happy, and this was a great experience to share together.

Lastly, it was another opportunity to be together at least temporarily and get to know each other better in person.

I am not really sure if my presence affected the outcome as other women were also interviewing for K1's and they were also approved (I have not read a response from anyone being there and being denied) However, I don't think it hurt, and could only serve to show the truthfulness of the relationship which seems to be the overall theme of the K1 interview. If you cannot be present for the actual interview I think it looks good if the interviewer asks your fiancé "When is the last time you saw your fiancé?" (Which seems to be a standard question) and their response is "minutes ago as they are waiting outside, or sitting right over there".

Whatever the two of you decide, good luck with your process, it is truly a great experience!

Hi Tahoe,

Thanks for sharing and for your best wishes. :D

I'm the beneficiary actually. :) I would really love to have my fiancé with me during the interview, even if he is outside of the interview room. For emotional support as well as for eliminating any chance of denial, as you mentioned, "I have not read a response from anyone being there and being denied" :)

I'm starting to think it might be a good idea to have him here during the interview. Just need to figure out the logistics now. :)

Best wishes to you and your better half! :D

Hello my friend

I've read all the reviews from the Nepal consulate and you don't have anything to worry about. It seems like the questions are very simple and seems like they particularly enjoy photos more than anything else.LOL So I would say bring as many as you can :) If its a 5 min interview I'd say you shouldn't ask your fiance to come especially with his new job and all. You will do just fine because you are not hiding anything just tell the truth and they will approve your visa. It's not like Nepal is a high fraud country like other countries are. Remember he will be there with you in spirit to support you and so will we :)

Congratulations on your NOA2 and good luck on your interview!

I did mine in Japan, so I don't know how relevant this is to yours.

I mentioned during the start of the interview that my fiance was present, but the CO didn't really ask for him to join or anything. I just went through the interview on my own, and the questions were simple enough (How did you meet, Where will you live, etc.)

It was nice to have him around during the process though. The whole thing took around an hour or so, and most of it was just waiting without any kind of electronic device. It was great that he was around to calm me down.

To be honest, if I were in your position, I'd tell my fiance to save up his vacation days so we can go take a longer honeymoon. ;-)

Hey Ltl, :)

Yup, talked it through with hubby a few days back. We had already decided on him staying in US during the interview. :) As you said, Nepal, not high fraud country, we don't have red flags so we're going to just wing it. :P

Going to take along a lot of photos of us but one with just him on it will be for me to keep myself calm during the interview :)

@babsloblaw: Thank you! :D Yup, we're certainly going to save up for the honeymoon instead. ;) haha..

He filled a 129F according to the timeline... You said you talked it over with your Hubby... That implies HUSBAND which implies already married which implies 129F was maybe for a K3 visa? If a K1 financee visa and you are married then there is a problem... if 129F and you are engaged and not married you'll want to avoid any implication that you might be married! Hope you get NOA2 soon.

Hey JOEQ,

Thanks for reminder. Yes, we're engaged only, as of now and to answer your ques, we've filed for K1. :) I always referred to him as hubby so it didn't cross my mind about the false implications it might cause.

Will keep it in mind from now on. :)

Thanks for your best wishes. We received word on our NOA2 just this week. Feels surreal, TBH. :D

Hope your process gets the same speed. I couldn't see your timeline. I'm guessing you still have yet to file for the process. Good luck. :)

Regards,

K

MK108... Great news on your NOA2!!! Very quick indeed. We sent ours in via DHL on April 2nd. Our situation is unique (arn't they all).. As long as we can get thru the process by early Dec we are good and may be fine even if we can't :-) I'll look at updating my profile.

I think your estimated ETA (Dec) sounds reasonable. :) You might get it before that if your case gets approved early, regardless of nature of the case ;) , than estimated processing time (5mths).

Wishing you all the very best for the process.

Its hard to say how helpful it was but the interview for us in Romania was like 3 minutes long with me there. Might have been more scrutiny if I wasn't there. I would say if the USC has the opportunity to attend the interview, and it is allowed by your consulate, do it. I think its shows an extra level of commitment to the CO interviewing you.

Hi Pablo,

Thanks for your reply. I talked it over with fiancé and we decided he won't be visiting during the interview. :) That's ok. We would've definitely opted for him to be here if there were any major red flags. As there are none, we decided against it.

Great to hear about your interview experience. I hope ours goes as smooth as well. :D
