K-1 Visas Dominican Republic

Hi all,

I am praying that God sends some patience my way. We have been waiting and waiting for an approval, while it seems that everyone around us is getting approved. I'd like to see how many K-1 filers are still waiting for their NOA2 for fiance's in the Dominican Republic. Please comment this thread so we can compare timelines, locations, etc. I'm hoping maybe it has more to do with the limits on the number of visas given to DR than anything else, but who knows!

Thanks.

Thank you. I've been calling periodically for updates, and even submitted an e-request online. They say Texas Service Center is currently processing applications from October 2nd, even though clearly many, many people that applied after that date have been approved. I will continue calling for the next month and see if the processing application date moves, but if anyone else has a better suggestion, please let me know! Sometimes I think I should have hired a lawyer for times like this, but who knows!

A lawyer doesnt move the process quicker.

My fiance and me , we did the process ourself, and we were approved in 4 months.

He sent the patition on june 7, got rfe on september, october 10 he answered and on october 23 we were approved, on november 14 my papers were to nvc, on november 20 sent to dominican consulate and on december 30 got my interview date for march 18.

A lawyer don expedite the process, the only thing that do a lawyer is fil out and send the forms, the same thing that you did.

All is made at uscis.

Nobody can made that they work eclusivelly in your case.

Filed: Citizen (apr) Country: Mexico

They do not process the I-129F petitions based on what country the foreign fiance(e) is from, so waiting times will not be the same simply based on what country you will apply for the K-1 visa in. Having used a lawyer would not have made your petition get processed any faster.

Well that is relative, my case took 4 months to be approved.

It could be faster if my fiance hasnt made a mistake when sent the petition.

All cases are diferents, some are approved faster and other no.

We are on the same boat. I received my NO1 on Oct 22nd. I have a requested that is up 60 days on march 31st but I'm emailing my congressman today and see if there's any way they can help out! They said to call again after the 31st if I haven't got an answer to make another request... are they serious!!! and the worst part is that Santo Domingo takes 4-5 for an interview date uffff :ranting::clock:

Hi,

Can you give us any insight as to how these cases are sorted? I am sure there has to be a process. Clearly it's not based on order in which they were recieved. I believe it has something to do with the state you live in, since they always ask me for my mailing address. Any insight would be helpful.

I wasn't clear in my post - I didn't mean hiring a lawyer to make things go faster, instead having a lawyer to fight for me, call for me, someone I can talk to and has experience with various types of cases, who I can go to with questions and concerns and would overall be more knowledgeable about this process than me, doing it for the first time. I'm learning as I go which does not compare to someone with years of experience.

I understand how you feel.. . and honestly I felt the same before I hired my lawyer.

Relax... Deep breathe.... Most of us are all going through it for the first time.. VJ is an awesome collection of knowledge and experiences... and well varied opinions.. lol but all in all you have at your fingertips many helpful, knowledgeable, concerned people on a similar mission....

You said: instead having a lawyer to fight for me, call for me,

NO ONE and I DO Mean NO ONE.. is gonna do this BETTER or work harder or faster or call more often.... for you, your love and your case... than YOU!! Period.

A lawyer doesn't have a vested interest and has MANY other cases... and you already paid them in advance.. You can't get money back easily and they KNOW IT!

You just have your ONE petition and VERY compelling reasons to work on it... actively and repeatedly.

Our Lawyer (Who was HIGHLY recommended) after cashing the check.. knew i would be in the Dom. Rep for 20 days in December... so he held our petition and did not file it until a few days AFTER I returned in January... and after I wrote a letter demanding all of our money back for non-performance.... AFTER I had to call the Florida bar to ask what to do!!! #######!!

When we got an RFE I had already received the hard copy in the US, had a friend open it, (I was in his country at the time) read it to me, write up the document RETURN BACK TO THE STATES and had already Fed Ex'd it back to USCIS.... THREE DAYS BEFORE My lawyer called to tell me I had an RFE and he needed me to come by his office to pick up the form and send it. out... I enjoyed VERY MUCH telling him that I had already handled it and overnighted it to USCIS three days before.

After NOA2 - My FIance wanted to have a call with him to go over everything and what to expect a week before our Visa Interview and a couple of days before I flew out.... My Lawyer texted ME and asked ME when my Visa Appt. was :-O

Trust me.. You are doing fine.... read the forums, use the Search feature and post when needed... You'll be fine.. and Hey Put that money towards your wedding or future trips! Or AOS fee of $1070 (for K-1)!!

~ Jan ??,2013 ~ Service Center ~ Vermont I-129F Packet sent

NOTE: Actual sent date unknown due to lawyer negligence - I delivered ALLForms and PAID Lawyer on Nov 7, 2012 - Lawyer kept saying he sent the packet and USCIS must have lost it. Thank you for your kind words! You are right, VJ is awesome! and full of varied opinions, LOL!!! You offer many valid points, some I had already thought of and some I had not. I have heard of so many people being burned by an immigration lawyer, known first hand of a few horror stories, and seen others go through a process that made me think "you paid someone how much?" You have to do all the work to provide all of the evidence and the supporting documents, what does the lawyer do?! In the end I decided to do it all myself. I am pretty good with these types of things, gathering documents, understanding directions to fill out a form, following up, etc., and with VJ I knew I had all the resources for this journey. I spoke with a tier 2 officer yesterday. They said I should have a response to my application within 90 days of my service request response. So I'm going to try and not check my case status or call in for the next 15-30 days and hope for a response. It's starting to take a toll on me!

My pleasure!! This whole process feels rough somedays ... but everytime I think of it I wish I had the money back... *sigh* and really the hardest part is the waiting... the initial paperwork and information gathering is not so bad.

Even preparing for the Interview (I was able to go) wasn't that bad... time consuming yes.. but not "hard". ANd it's not like the lawyer "knows" your info.. you STILL have to gather and provide and verify and clarify.. lol May as well go SHOPPING!!!!!! :dancing::idea::devil:

I am sure you'll have your response soon... also had t ask for a Service Request and I they said the same thing but my response was I believe within 3 weeks and probably less somewhere around 2... I called on the very same day my case hit 5 months. :D

Go out and do something that requires physical exertion.. that always helps me... and yeah hold off a little bit checkign status.. the emails or texts are such a NICE surprise!! DO you have the electronic notices for your case??

Agreed, the additional paperwork and supporting documents were not bad at all! I'm glad I didn't hire a lawyer. It's good to hear you got such a quick response after your service request! Mine was almost 2 weeks ago. I do have the electronic notices set up. You can imagine how excited I was when we got the text that our alien number had changed. Can wait for the "approved" text!!! LOL
