Hi all. I have an ethnic suffix to my name that translated, means "daughter of". It is in my passport and all my Singapore-issued ID --> [First name] daughter of [Last name]. Even though I excluded it on all the documents I submitted to USCIS/DOS when applying for my K1 visa, it is printed on my visa under "given name".

I do not want to include the "daughter of" part of my name on my green card as it is often mistaken for a middle name (which it is not). So far I have had no problem leaving it off when I am booking airline tickets and write it like this --> [First name] [Last name]. I plan to exclude "daughter of" when applying for my marriage license.

Q1: Will it be an issue that the names on my passport/visa and marriage certificate will not be identical?

Q2: Will the name printed on my green card follow what is written in my passport or marriage certificate?

Thanks!

Since Washington state is one that will not even recognize changing your middle name to your maiden name when taking your husband's last name, then I am going to guess they probably will not allow you to drop part of your legal name through marriage. You really would need to contact the county clerk where you will purchase the license and ask them if your name must match the passport you will be using as ID.

As far as getting the green card without it, they may or may not allow it. Some adjudicators seem to be sticklers about the name change laws and some seem to pass through whatever name you filled out the forms with.
