Well, it just amazes me that someone who insists that you should have two heterosexual parents, never learned any of the things from them that parents are supposed to teach a child. I am sure glad my parents did and at least I have the capacity to self-reflect.

Another thing, I was raised Catholic, although I don't practice it now, and as far as I can recall, the church teaches love for others, not hatred.

And since you could not name even one area in which these kids do as well it would seem my concerns stand.

IN the same way we tell kids not to smoke because chances are it will be harmful.... that same logic and statistical reasoning can be applied to other areas of well being.

These kids? Lots of children from single mothers are extremely well adjusted and turn into perfectly respectable, law abiding citizens. Your claims are just more right wing rhetoric designed to stigmatize poor, single mothers. I don't play that game. Enjoy it on your own.

MAny social scientist suggest the problem is: As a nation we have stopped "stigmatizing" those behaviors which are harmful to society.

What percentage of people on Food stamps are in single headed house holds?

Any idea?

It is stunning and if you don't give a ####### about the children and what research shows you should at least care about your greedy tax dollars.

Hmmm... Let me think on that. My parents split when I was two because of the INstability caused by my father's chosen profession. There were many moves and many issues of being unable to contact him in emergencies due to the nature of his job. Because my mother left my father, I was raised in the same school system and got to go to school in the same place for my entire school career.

My mother got together with a man when I was a small child who we lived with, common law, and who fathered my sister, who was raised in that same household. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts to give us stability and my stepfather's job, my mother became ill. I ended up raising my siblings.

We had a family structure. We had a stable place to live. My sister, at least, had the two people who created her living with her.

I'm undereducated because I had to keep going home. My brother is probably going to jail. My sister is unable to decide what she wants to do with her life.

These things, biological parents and stability, do not guarantee superior outcome.

I know several people who were adopted and thus not raised by their birth parents, who have achieved far greater than I. I also know people who were raised all over the world who have achieved great things.

The difference between my family and theirs? The support structures their families had in place compared to mine.

It's not about the biology of the parents. It's not about the stability of the parent(s) raising the children.

It's about how society supports the family. It takes a village to raise a child and the artificial ideal of the nuclear family (mom, dad, kids, living in one house, away from extended family) has done more damage to the ability to raise children than any other thing. We're apes. Apes are social beings who have extended families, who raise children together as groups. By putting forth the idea that multiple generations under one roof is a sign of failure, we have done so much damage to the family unit that I don't think there's any possibility of short term recovery. It will take generations to fix this.

When society supports the upbringing of children, children have greater success than just having two parents. There used to be a time when kids played in the streets and the entire neighbourhood looked out for them, when grandparents lived with the family and helped with the little ones. There was a time when a single income could support a family of four. Those times are long past and we are reaping what was sown in the post world war two economic boom.

I am sorry but sheeesh, I am going to be matter of fact. Maybe if you spent more time really being friends with people of other backgrounds, you would begin to understand them. Being friends means treating them as equals and realizing that they come from a completely different perspective than you and just accepting that and not putting them down because they aren't like you. Also, having some empathy and compassion for others would help.

Then maybe you wouldn't be asking these inane and insensitive questions.

GG trust my my friend I have been around Blacks my whole life, I have gone to school with them served in the Military next to them, had Black dorm mates and worked for them and with them….. familiarity is not in short supply with me.

And my experience is not limited like so many who have only lived with Blacks in a college or professional setting. I have been around African Americans of all classes. In almost all cases I got on well with them, if I had some great heartburn with Blacks why would I be living where I am now.

My criticism is born of compassion. for too long we have been watching a large portion of Black America fail and we are afraid to address the REAL things holding them down.

I am critical of what has become known as Black culture, I don't belittle "Black People" though many confuse the two.

I am critical of the Gov't treating people differently because of race in any way.
