Hey Lost, this doesn't represent all black children. And the fact you replied with the video, oh well.

He's an ignorant racist. Why do you bother - you'll never get through to him.

It would literally take artillery to put new ideas into his head.

Even with that, I don't think it would work.

I guess I can't understand the logic. If I was this hateful, I'd want to be around like minded individuals like myself. This way we could be ignorant and evil all day long without having to hide it. It would suck that I have to get my beliefs crushed by facts and evidence showing the contrary.

That's only if you recognize facts and evidence as such.

I think you watch too much television. The only way to advance is to take the exam and make rank. We do it just like everyone else. There is no advancement of black people in the military that you don't 100% earn. My mentors were folks I sought out, not the other way around.

Face it, you're wrong.

Nothing wrong with that. But, being a minority doesn't give you an advantage. It's one of the hardest training course in the military. I've trained with wash outs from the program. There was at least 2 black guys in that program. It's not for everyone, only a few make the cut.

Of the 1,230 plebes who took the oath of office at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis this week, 435 were members of minority groups. It's the most racially diverse class in the academy's 164-year history.

Academy leaders say it is a top priority to build a student body that reflects the racial makeup of the Navy and the nation. The service academy has almost twice as many black, Hispanic and Asian midshipmen as it did a decade ago. Much of the increase has occurred in the past two years, with a blitz of 1,000 outreach and recruitment events across the country.

But during the past two weeks, a faculty member has stirred debate by suggesting that the school's quest for diversity comes at a price. Bruce Fleming, a tenured English professor, said in a June 14 opinion piece in the Capital newspaper of Annapolis that the academy operates a two-tiered admission system that makes it substantially easier for minority applicants to get in. Academy leaders strenuously deny Fleming's assertion. Fleming served on the academy's admissions board several years ago.

The debate, fanned on talk radio and blogs, comes as the Naval Academy and many other colleges and universities are striving to build diversity without resorting to quotas or formulas that might be found unconstitutional. A 2003 Supreme Court decision upheld diversity as a goal but encouraged universities to consider applicants as individuals, a philosophy embraced by the Naval Academy and much of the higher education community.

Fleming says the increase in minority enrollment at the academy has brought in students with lower grades and SAT scores who need more remedial classes and are less capable of the scholarship for which the academy is known.

"First of all, we're dumbing down the Naval Academy," Fleming said in an interview. "Second of all, we're dumbing down the officer corps."

It's funny how you left out the next sentence, which denies the assertion. But, let me guess you believe him over the others?

What others? He is the one who would know.... and speak up the others dare not.

Come on Marv, you have a shortage of Black recruits, their failure rate is high, how do you suddenly get them

-in the door

then

-qualified?

NOw the goal of having a force that matches a certain look might be more important than enforcing every standard.

I just wish we could all agree..... either skin color matters or it doesn't.

It is either has some added value or it is just pigment... because I was all on-board when we were considering character and skill.

Navy's top admiral urges less talk, more action on diversity

PORTSMOUTH

.......................................

The rarity of blacks in the top ranks is apparent in one startling statistic: Only one of the 38 four-star generals or admirals serving as of May is black. And just 10 black men have ever gained four-star rank – five in the Army, four in the Air Force and one in the Navy, according to the Pentagon.

As a result, younger black officers have few mentors of their own race.

The anniversary of Truman’s order this week has led Defense Secretary Robert Gates and other top officials to reflect on how far the armed forces have come with racial integration and what they have yet to achieve.

..............................

Roughead described various ways to bring more minority officers into senior leadership positions, none of which are quick solutions.

He stressed the importance of mentoring junior officers by steering them to posts that will help them ascend the ranks.

Another important facet: bringing in officers through the Naval Academy and university commissioning programs. Roughead talked about expanding preparatory school slots for potential Naval Academy students.

Roughead said 16 historically black colleges, including Hampton University and Norfolk State University, have naval reserve officer training programs, and the Navy is working to add programs at seven more.

“If you do not seek out students who are at historically black colleges to share with them opportunities that the U.S. Navy has, that is an opportunity missed,” Roughead said. “It’s an opportunity missed for the young men and women who attend that school; it’s an opportunity missed for all of us.”

Yeah who knew, women have trouble teaching boys how to be men.

That's it, that's your story of redemption as a result of the special powers of fathers? I have news for you Danno, hold on to your hat, but girls can be thieves as well. So, how did your father stop you from turning into a career criminal thief? Moreover how is that related to teaching a boy to be a man. Finally what exactly about a woman/mother makes it impossible for her to teach a boy to be a useful male member of society? You are lacking any specifics whatsoever. Your response is totally meaningless, and while I admit I am a mere woman, I feel certain that they do not provide any proof whatsoever of your assertions.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .
