You got spammed with this garbage, then you repost it here complete with link. A thread like 'what to do about spam filter' is one thing, but I seriously don't understand the quote and the link.

I am not trying to get on your sh!t, but it is what it is. And your title...'does anyone else get...' well of course they do...do you think you're the only one?

You don't have to take what I said and get so offended...just stating my opinion and it's really nowt personal. Seriously. I remember the THING THAT SHALL NOT BE MENTIONED started off cos of a hotlink where the other site was able to see where the traffic was coming from, then it brought some shiznit this way. So a dodgy site like hey get a bigger #######! could bring spammers or whatever here.

If I'm wrong, I apologise

Okay, now I am intrigued...

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

i have a problem with spam too. my solution is to fill up the mailbox so it cannot receive any more mail (with yahoo it's easy to do) and then let it sit for months, usually 3-5 like that. the spammers will get the mail bounced back to them and they will have taken you off their list when you do finally clear it. use several email accounts and never give a business one that you use for personal email.

The first method really doesn't work. Nearly all spammers forge the 'from' address so it's harder to trace and invalid or undeliverable mail doesn't ever bounce back to them.

The second method is correct. Get yourself a free web based Email account and enable their spam filtering. I would suggest Yahoo because their filtering is excellent. Only give out your personal/private address to friends and family and even then only the ones who aren't stupid enough to send you links via web pages (aka 'send this link to a friend').

Sorry, once you're getting spammed the only thing you can do is block/filter incoming mail. It can be done but it takes technical knowledge and even then you can wind up flagging 'clean' mail.

Your best bet is to get 2 new Email addresses... Use one for personal Email with friends/family and the other for a 'spam' address where you're required to give your Email address to register something. Also, keep in mind if the person asking for your address will never need to contact you just use a bogus one like 'nothanks@nospam.com' or whatever.

Also... Never unregister your address from a non-legit spam mailing. By that I mean if you're getting weekly messages from a legit and trusted online vendor it's usually okay to request to be taken off their list - you can check their privacy policy to be sure. But if you're getting spammed by pharmacy ads, enhancement ads, etc, DO NOT unregister your address. It will only prove to the spammer that your address is valid and you'll wind up getting more spam.

As others have said, you should *not* have posted a spam link here in a public forum. You only promote the spammers by doing so. ;)

Lastly... All spammers should be shot in the knees then drawn & quartered! :P

I believe there's a way to find out the IP address of where the spam originated and block all future mail from that address. There's also talk of all adult websites to be required to register as a .xxx which will help filter incoming ads.

Yes, you can look through the mail header and find the originating IP address. There are anti-spam groups (Spamhaus is one of them) out there that maintain a database of known spammer IP addresses. The problem is spammers jump from ISP to ISP so it's a moving target. As far as adult websites registering their stuff as a .xxx, that's only going to apply to those sites that are hosted where the law applies and those who choose to follow it.

This is a pretty interesting article on a Chicago based spammer vs. Spamhaus (lawsuit)

The sad thing is, the Illinois court held up the spammers lawsuit against Spamhaus and awarded him $11.7 million in damages. Luckily for everyone but the spammers the ruling in the US doesn't apply to the UK so Spamhaus' response to the lawsuit was (paraphrased)... Uh, go #%&@ yourself! :P:whistle:

Ah, ok. I've been using Ad-Aware for years now and it seems to minimize the number of spam emails I get by finding data trackers that a lot of those sites place on your computer everytime you click on something. I hope legislation is passed that restricts companies from placing data trackers on your personal computer. That to me is an invasion of privacy. It's like giving your favorite stores permission to place hidden cameras in your house to watch your every move.

Yep, AdAware is a good program. I'd also recommend Windows Defender, Spybot Search & Destroy, and SpywareBlaster. All are free as well. Install them and 'immunize' your browser(s) and keep them up to date. Or just run Linux like I'm posting from now. ;):P

The problem with any legislation is it only applies to the countries that adhere to the legislation. For example, the ruling in the Illinois court didn't fly in the UK. We as the US can't regulate the internet because we don't own it.

As far as cookies used to track you, the programs above will help some. You can also use Firefox and install the 'CookieSafe' add-on so you can selectively allow/block cookies. That can be found here: CookieSafe
