Hello,

My Wife (US LPR) and I (Irish Citizen) are going through the CR-1 process at the moment; was filling out the i-130 when I noticed she has an IR7 category Greencard, a quick google tells me this is give to children of US citizens? Her mother is Mexican who has been living in the states for a long time, but is a US perm res; likewise her Biological father; however her step father is a US citizen, did she get it through him then?

Would this not entitle her to US citizenship, is she is considerend to be the "child of a US citizen" - she would have been under 18 when she got this greencard; and when her mother re-married.

Is there a number she can ring, where they can check this type of thing on the systems?

Cheers,

Tim

Why not ask her how she received a green card? http://www.uscis.gov/family/family-us-citizens/children/bringing-children-sons-and-daughters-live-united-states-permanent-residents

She could apply for naturalization after she has been a permanent resident for at least 5 years > http://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/files/article/chapter4.pdf

I have. She got it through her step father US citizen. She will be doing her N-400 very shortly. I just happened accross this IR-7 on her greencard, if she is the "daughter" of a US citizen as it says; should she not be a citizen?

They cannot gain automatic citizenship through a step-parent. They would have to be adopted. > http://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume12-PartH-Chapter2.html
