Hey everyone,

We're trying to figure out how to move my fiance's stuff from the UK to the US. I checked USairways and they allow up to 9 bags a person?? some of the other airlines capped it off at 2bags. Has anyone gone with usairways before? i feel like that might be the best option! we want to move over as little as possible.

Please let me know what you guys have done! really appreciate it!

9 bags as little as possible! wow, i thought me buying a huge suitcase and the largest carry on i could find might be overkill. To be fair I already have some stuff there, maybe a suitcase worth of stuff.

Unfortunately I cant point you in the right direction but there must be somewhere that offers shipping at a low price as long as you are willing to wait a while for it be delivered. As boilers post shows it'll cost you an extra $1500 to ship the 8 extra suitcases, plus you'd have to buy all those extra bags. I think it also depends on what they're planning on bringing, they could end up with some significant access baggage fees due to wait and packing everything so it wont break etc.

I've looked at this move as a great opportunity to go through all my stuff and work out what I need, what is significant and what I can live without. I've donated enough photographic equipment to build three darkrooms to various people, and all but two of my cameras with people I trust and know will use them and look after them with the understanding that if I ever need them then they'll give them back (I have a lot of cameras) I've copied all my music to my ipod and got rid of the cd's and vinyl, except rarities and favourites............the list goes on.

Id look at shipping options, I dont even want to try and imagine dealing with 9 suitcases! Sorry this isnt actually much use at all and more of an opinion. I'll do a quick search for shipping options for you as ive just got you to read this post without any solution.

oh it will be 4bags tops...its just that i was suprised they allowed up to 9 bags it just seemed unreal since other airlines cap it at 2. Also, usairways it seems that the price for 4bags and up seem to be at a flat $200 not additional per bag....it just seems too goodto be true....but yea 9 bags would be a little crazy!!! i guess maybe thats why they have it?

Other airlines do allow more than 2 bags. When I brought most of my things from India to US I was on United and I carried 4 large suitcases in checked luggage and 2 carry on bags in handluggage. I would call the airline customer service to be sure you understand the possible charges. Also, if you can get "gold" or "platinum" status they should allow you more bags for free (united allows 3 free bags for gold and above) or see if you have a friend/family member who has status that they will give you their card and see if the ariline will allow you to get more free bags. All these things have worked for me in the past.

You might find it cheaper to send more stuff but ship it. I flew VA and they have a fixed limit and a high price for extra bags and cases. It was way cheaper to ship but of course that can take up to three months. But I've shipped nearly 40 boxes (mostly CD's/DVDs/books etc) for for about the price of five case (if they'd take them) on VA.
