Sometimes people seem so far apart from each other and then when you look closer you see they have a common interest or passion.

When it comes to Michelle Obama and Putin, they both share an interest in the health and fitness of children.

While at this time we can't compare the cost of each program we might be able to speculate with approach will hold the most promise to

strengthen kids in their mind and body.

Lets take a look.

Some parents would gasp at the thought of their children playing with a toy gun, but these Russian children are actually encouraged to take up real arms.

Military sports club, 'Berkut', (meaning golden eagle), trains up young Russian, who dream of joining the elite units of the Russian army and fighting under the command of President Vladimir Putin.

For once I agree with you Danno. Putins way is definitly more effective as a guide to weight loss if he continues to go down this path, it's called..........starvation.

I don't recall ever in American history people resorting to cannibalism and eating children because of widespread famine and poverty.

That's an understatement.

drought? That was not brought on by a drought.

Drought was a major factor overall. We cannot dispute that there was an absolute shortage of food throughout the USSR brought on by drought.

The man made part, the genocide, is that Stalin forced Ukraine to bear the brunt of that. Grain was exported from Ukraine to other regions while the people of Ukraine starved, and at the same time help from other countries was refused.

Not only in Russia. They did those throughout the USSR and the Eastern Block. I remember that well. It's an effort to have the next generation fall in line. It's about oppression of free thought and free will. They force kids from a young age into a command structure where life is determined by orders that aren't to be questioned. They did this in 1930's Germany, too. They called it the Hitlerjugend. Same concept.

IT's kinda cool the way you compare a voluntary youth program which a small number of kids join to the STATIST programs of the past.... you remember back in the days when Collectivism was all the rage and folks like you decided what was best for the masses.
