Some good news: House Approves Democratic `Pay-Go' Spending-Control Measure

The House approved rules that make it more difficult for lawmakers to cut taxes or increase some government spending, changes that Democrats said will help them restore fiscal discipline in Washington.

The chamber voted 280-152 to impose so-called pay-as-you-go budget rules requiring lawmakers to offset the cost of tax cuts or spending on new entitlement programs by finding savings elsewhere in the budget to avoid adding to the deficit.

``The times of reckless and unchecked spending in Congress are over,'' said Representative Heath Shuler, a North Carolina Democrat. ``We're cutting our nation's credit card.''

Most Republicans opposed the plan, saying it would create obstacles to new tax cuts while exempting most types of federal spending.

The restrictions don't apply to any existing entitlement programs, such as the growing Medicare program. The rules also don't apply to the discretionary portion of the budget, which is subject to annual approval by Congress.

What "other lot" are you talking about? Have you attained the right to vote yet? You complain incessantly about paying taxes in the U.S., but of course as we all know you're recieving all the services afforded to a "resident"....

It's clear to me that you still have not assimilated......

It's a shame- this is all that's wrong with the U.S. immigration policy.

We need to adopt the Aussies policy- love it or leave it- if you don't like it here then shut up till you can vote, or just go home.........

Well when you and the rest of that 1% of the U.S. (which does so much to lower the tone of the other 99%) are running things, I might worry about it. But until then it looks like you'll just have to make do with shrieking about petty issues like airport taxi drivers while fantasizing about advances in science that will "purify" the human race.
