Where did you go for your passport? my hubby just did his passport in bangalore and it took 1 week for the new passport to arrive via speed post! He was getting it updated with the new address and adding my name to the bio page so they took his old passport and canceled it and sent a new one.

If you have your old passport send a copy of that instead.

is it possible to send a cancelled passport copy to NVC instead of waiting for new passport n bring new passport to interview?

Yes the officer in psk is authorized to issue passport with out police verification, and the verification will be done later, but there's a catch to it, if the verification is done later and result is negative then the issued passport could be impounded and Render not valid for travel. But in your case that is not a problem.

Did you go for tatkal? If there is no police clearance involved it should not take more than 3 days.

The timelines are there in the PSK website.

Do you have the tracking number? They give a piece of paper with the tracking number on it after they cancel and reissue your passport.

You can check the status online too.

Good luck.

It took my husband about 10 months to finally get his new passport (renewal, not first issue). Basically, any way they could make things difficult... they did. Dealing with the passport office over there has made me seriously appreciate the efficiency of the US government.
