My situation is as follows:

While working in the US, I obtained permanent resident status. When I left to work on a project in Europe, I applied for an I-131 permit that would allow me to re-enter the country. This is valid until November 2014.

During a recent hurried move, both of these documents appear to have been misplaced. I have the letter granting the I-131 and my Canadian passport.

I am still hopeful that my Green Card and I-131 will be located, but I've been trying to discover the procedure by which they can be replaced in case this is not possible. The USCIS website appears to give different guidelines for replacing each of the two documents.

You will have to file form I-90 to get a replacement green card but since you are outside of the country, you will have to contact the local US consulate or port of entry before you fill out the I-90 form. Whatever country you are in, give them a call and you will be able to get further information on how to proceed.
