Limiting the tools used for self defense limits the right. Its pretty straight forward. I'm really trying to connect with you here.

But you're not. Just as a megaphone doesn't improve or strengthen my right to free speech, a firearm does nothing to improve my right to self defense. I don't own a firearm, you probably do. And yet, we both have the exact same right to self defense. How do you like them apples?

If I tell you its illegal to use certain media formats does that limit your free speech?

Yes we both have the exact same right to self defense because we live under the same laws. But if say, the government told you, you could have a firearm and I could not then I would say we do not have an equal right to self defense. I would say my right is more limited.

Your question was asked and answered.

If the government were to tell me that I cannot own a firearm - which governments in this country happen to tell a lot of people - I would still have the same right to self defense that you have.

We both have the same right, but in that case your right would be limited compared to mine. It is true, if a person commits a crime of a certain degree for instance, their right to defend themselves is curtailed somewhat.

That's what you believe and you're free to do that. But you won't get me to see it that way. I had no less of a right to self defense back home in Germany than I do here. And remember, it's not really about self defense, it's about whether guns are necessary for liberty. Self defense is just a tangent you went off on and that I entertained for a moment. Bottom line, guns are not necessary for liberty. If anything, they might impede it some because they create and foster a more dangerous and hostile environment.

I think in my second post I indicated that the greater point was self defense as that is an essential part of civil liberties, but ok lets depart here we will not be seeing eye to eye on this.
