So I am sending a request for an extension since my husband will hopefully be here in May or June. Do I receive a confirmation of this? How long does it normally take the IRS to send a confirmation? I am just worried cause my husband will need it for the interview since it will be after April 15th.

Thank you!

If you file your extension on paper by mail you don't get any confirmation from the IRS. Your retained copy of your extension plus cancelled check, if you owe tax, are your only proof of filing for an extension. I would think the same applies for e-file except that maybe your e-file provider might send you an email or statement confirming that your extension has been filed.
