see, you can only hear my southern accent when I'm very very very angry. Most of the time I sound like the rest of us midwesterners.

I had to work the phones at our company for awhile.....the only accent I could not understand was rural Tennessee - but I tried really hard. The rest of ya'll - do your thing man. Except Arkansas....you can no longer call yourself the Natural State if you continue to abadon cars on the highway and throw ####### out of your window onto the median.

actually i say ya'll on a daily basis  I can't get that one out of my vocabulary.

When I was really young, my first trip outside of Wisconsin was to Disney. My first encounter with someone from the south was a waitress at a restaurant. When I heard her say ya'll I started laughing out loud. My mom promptly smacked me along side my head.

Funny thing is.....I find myself saying it sometimes. I do refuse to say "might ought could" though. That just sounds dumb.

mary, i actually got hired for a job in Atlanta because of my accent...

my boss thought that it would draw more customers...not sure why tho...

until i found out that the company printed MEN'S magazines... and a few gay ones too... *blush*

i HATED it when i had to proof the prints with the customer... i'm sure i almost glowed in the dark!!!

 Bet you did. I know I told my hubby first time we talked on the phone you may not understand my accent. He said just talk slowly to me. HAHAHA I said you do not know southern accent then?:lol:

faith... i have a bad habit of dropping the last consonant on words... especially when i am among my friends...

for example:

pillow becomes pilla

window becomes winda

my ex... he would always tease me...

when i say right... it comes out raht...

i have tried to improve my accent... and pronunciation... for professional reasons... but it occasionally slips up on me when i feel comfortable around someone... :)

that's the thing.. those things slip out. I have 2 kids with speech problems so correct diction became very important in my house. They never picked up my ya'll or fixin' or yonder, mainly because I was teased when I said it. I've gotten a lot better about it... cept when I'm mad! :P

Fixin' to is a point of contention between my aunt (from Alabama) and my uncle (from Iowa). He refuses to accept that that is ok to say, it's funny to hear them argue about it! :)

The part of Canada that I come from is incredibly similar to rural Georgia. Everyone tells me I will have culture shock, but that just never happened. Think about everything good and bad about Georgia and we have it here in NS. All except the cute accent.
