MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Chad Thomas, a senior at Booker T. Washington, is a teen with many talents. So many talents, that he has received hundreds of college scholarship offers.

Thomas, 18, has received 150 scholarships for his skills on the football field, but also for his exceptional musical abilities—playing a total of nine instruments.

Of the football and music scholarships offered, Thomas has chosen to attend the University of Miami and will play football as a Hurricane, and also practice his musical talents at the University's Frost School of Music.

Wow, I want to know more.

I must say, as a musician, that knowing a lot of instruments isn't necessarily a good or impressive thing. Most people who learn a lot of instruments aren't actually good at a single one.

Can you find more to the story? He must have been recruited by so many places? I imagine most of the scholarships are for football.

AOS for my husband

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

This was a local story. I found the story on the Root, and followed it to the source. Looks like he's going to Fam U on a football scholarship.

I think the point was that he actually did something other than play ball. Football is a given for black youths, being musically inclined in the vein of instruments, not so much.

Yeah, he might not be a musical prodigy, but I'd imagine playing any instrument is a challenge, let alone nine. Whichever one he chooses, I hope he goes far.

oh, but the scholarships at fastweb, many of them, are awarded based on achievement , with remainders based on essay submittal (still some slog, real work, that)..

not trying to start an argument, but I guess the nuance on how to use fastweb might be lost on folk that not know of that website.

That's 150 scholarships stolen from white and Asian folk. :(

I'm surprised this hasn't come up yet....

Give it a few hours to mature. We will serve no whine before its time.

I'm pretty sure Al and Jesse will make their way here to complain about the plight of white teenagers.

Congrats to this young man for his hard work and success.
