Sorry ET, I didn't have time to look up the numbers but you knew what I meant ;)

Don't forget the service industry, where they have a much, much lower minimum wage and make their money from tips. I believe that it's somewhere in the region of $2 an hour, but I'm in a WebEx seminar right now and I should be paying attention

Even the service industry employees are due minimum wage. They ought to make tips to reach the $5.15/hour or the employer has to bring them up to that. Truth be told, if they can't muster $5.15/hour with base and tips, they usually get canned. Service staff needs to report tips to the employer because employers have to demonstrate to the feds that each of their employees makes $5.15/hour.

Actually, I'm based-salaried and commissioned, and my base salary is greater than minimum wage ;)

Speaking of sales, I have to go and present some quotes. I'll be back to fight some more later :P

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

Just raising minumum wage is a bandaid

I remember when I was a teenager 25 years ago my dad was making a decent salary as a federal worker(not a political offic), not great but it paid the bills.

The main differance is with that average salary 3 months would have paid for a new car

House prices and his years salary were the same.

Minumum wage was about 2.80 or 3 not sure which.

Now average house in the same neighborhood are 6 times more and are 4 times the average us salary

average car now takes 6 months to pay off and do not last as long.

Current salarys have less than half the buying power then they did a generation ago.

What sad is the gap is not closing but getting higher and higher.

It a sad time when a 40 hour job in a medical field is not enough income to take care of a family.
