Feb 20, 14 - Combo Card Received

So my spouse and I really wanted to book our flight to my homeland for a two week trip as soon as possible. The problem is that we are still waiting for the interview date to be announced to us. Our biggest fear is that while we are out of the country, we will receive the letter from USCIS with the interview date which will fall on the date that we are still abroad. Ideally, we want to go in the middle of April.

My questions are:

1. Is considering to go abroad without the set interview date a good idea?

2. When can I realistically expect the interview date to come?

Thank you VJ for helping us even though we are long-time lurkers of this forum.

They give you about a month's notice, so if you want to travel in less than a month from now, you will not have your interview then. You would already know if that was the case.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

You may not even get an interview, I filed in late Oct and got my combo card Jan followed by a letter in March saying interview will probably be waived. I'd say go for it in April, doesn't seem like your interview will be before then and you may end up waiting another couple of months to find you are not having one anyway.

The OP filed a I-130/I-485 so s/he will have a mandatory interview.

Only those with K-1 visa have a chance to have the interview waived.
