Hello all,

I would like to know from any of you VJ veterans what you would suggest for the following situation:

My fiancee and I will most probably get married in Chicago the week she arrives on her K-1, and the next week after we will have to move cross country to California.

I understand it can be a headache to have to change addresses when you are in the middle of AOS and employment authorization etc.

The question is, what is better, going with the plan above or waiting until we have our address in California, get married in California and apply for AOS etc. all in California?

Why would one be a better idea than the other?

I welcome your comments, thank you very much!!!

Best,

D and C

Get married in Chicago and get several certified copies of the marriage certificate (This also applies if you decide to get married in CA). Move. File for AOS at the new address. No matter what, I would recommend that you file at the address you will be at for the next 5-8 months so there are no problems in receiving the bio appoinment letter, AP/EAD card, and the GC (interview letter if you have an interview). Unfortunately the change of address is hit and miss with more stories of miss soI would avoid having to change my address during this process.

Good luck,

Dave

Hey :)

I would probably get married ASAP then move to Cali. and file the papers from there. Do you have a place lined up to stay in Cali or are you still house hunting? The more you have set in stone I think the easier it would be to do the AOS after you move. You can get married anywhere, and I think it would be best to be set in where you are staying for a long time, while filing AOS.

Glad to have met you two through this journey. 8 more weeks :) take care and good luck.

Best,

Crys and Gus
