My fiance brought my ring here when he proposed and it is worth let's just say 5 digits in US dollars. He didnt pay anything. Just make sure he puts it in his pocket or hand carry though, incase his luggage gets lost. Just bring the reciept/papers if anything.

Hi Disya,

Indonesian government will ask any visitors to declare what's their bring into the country for instance money, gift, and etc. They only taxed the items if listed worth more than 250 USD. That's new rule that applied I think in 2010. Your fiancé also has to declare how much money he brings to the country. Indonesian government very tricky, sometimes.

Official Website DJBC

Pertanyaan :

Hey, your interview will coming up. Keep me updated! Edited by Girl from Celebes

There is no need to even report that on the customs form. If all you have is personal belongings just declare $0.

Indonesian government require all visitors to declare what they are bring to the country even just personal belongings and how much it's worth. There is a clear rule about that. Dealing with them will give you an headache, I guarantee you. If they caught you are lying, especially for a foreigner, you are in trouble. That's why I prepared everything for my fiancé before he came to Indonesia for my interview.

I dealt with them when I wanted to bring my cats to the US and I will tell you this, " it is pain on the butt". Luckily, my fiancé and I went through the airport after long process of the papers. Even the US government is not so strict about pets - only Hawaii and Guam for exception -.When I landed at Detroit airport, the officer did not even ask all papers that Indonesian government required me to provide.

Some people are lying and can get away from that. But, I guess it is a lucky beginner. But, I won't suggested the OP not to declare the ring.

I asked this very question directly to us customs and border protection when I was thinking of the same thing. They said any foreign ring MUST be declared and duty paid on it, failure to report is illegal and it could be fined, seized and a blemish put on your record.

I just bought at zales when I was there, worked out way cheaper.

Don't know how it would apply in reverse

If you are not sure, let him wear it on his finger or wear it with a necklace when he comes to Indonesia. Custom in US and Indonesia will not bother to ask about it. But as my experience my fiance brought my ring in its box with him when he came to Indonesia and custom in US and Indonesia didn't ask about it. So i'm sure he'll be okay, besides, your fiance will bring only one ring, my fiance brought three rings, my engagement rings and our wedding rings.
