My wife's here now on a K-3. When she got to Miami, they took her medical records, took fingerprints, and some other stuff. A friend told us that she'll be getting her residence in time, and no more paperwork has to be filed. Pretty much saying Miami's takin' care of things. It doesn't sound right to me. I'm pretty sure AOS needs to be filed.. My friend also said she can get her SS# now too??? Can sombody tell me what's up please??? It just doesn't add up to the process I've read here.

Obviously your friend knows #^@& all about the K-3 Visa process. She can't get a SS# until she has an EAD or her green card. She needs to file I-485 adjustment of status and also I-765 if she wants to work while pending her green card. Go check out the guides.

As above...

Do not listen to your "friend" as in 2 years when your wifes K3 visa runs out, you will find her out of status.

K3 cant work without EAD. K3 cant get a SSN without EAD or greencard.

One good thing... K3 is a multi entry visa so she can travel out of the country...

Remember K3 is only a visa, it allows entry into the USA and your marriage allows your wife the privelege of applying for residency, via AOS.

I 130 & I129F (K3) and AOS info in timeline
