Fortunately, I believe that in the final analysis, we will discover that the lasting legacy of Phelps' hatred and vitriol is the uniting of religious and nonreligious people, with left and right leaning politics... All joining together to say that the westboro "church" is wrong in its motives, its methods, and its message.

The enemy of my enemy, etc...

You're right.

Come to think about it, Mr. Phelps (whether he knew it or not) did more to advance LGBT rights that anyone else. By resorting to tactics so vile and underhanded, he unified that community even more and made them stronger.

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

I realize that since the right Reverend Phelps was a raging homophobe he was likely quite a hero of yours, but the man also considered himself quite the Christian, so you are digging the hole deeper. And you never 'simply post' as your post history clearly indicates.

I tried to give you an out, but you failed to take advantage of it.

Are his Christian leanings some news-flash to you?

I would wager most did not know he was such a staunch democrat..... why is that?

Do ya think if a man so warped that he would disrupt funerals were a long time GOP member..... that it would that have been kept a secret so long?

You seem to want to tie me to the Good Rev, though I have not supported the man in his activism. (or even talked about it)

IS that supposed to bother me or something?

Did it occur to you that his Democratic affiliation wasn't so much a secret as it was irrelevant? You have discussed, and posted, indeed generated entire threads in regard to your personal homophobia. I could see where you might be a bit more caged in your opinion on homosexuality, but you have been pretty clear that although you might not share the right Reverends' style, you do share his prejudice. Bro you better wake up from your delusion. The opinions I hold of Homosexuality is the prevailing view in the world.

The whole word is not your circle of friends.

my views are in fact more kind than we find in most places around the world.

Should I thank your religion and the other religions of the world for the wide acceptance of homophobia? No thanks.

China and all of the soviet Union existed under many decades of an Atheist imposed society, .. you are aware of that? Today China is the largest bastion of Atheists and many still exist inside of Russia and out, yet they failed to grasp the appreciation for homosexuality, religion simply confirmed what modern man already knew.

IMHO those who make such statements are doing so for their own benefit, as is often the case with mob mentality. Seems like a desperate need to convince themselves their opinions are valid, despite lacking gravitas or any semblance of rationale. To be sure, you may need to click your heels three times.

Such comment demonstrates a complete lack of knowledge of the new testament. Phelps' leanings on christianity are as well founded as those of Hitler, who was also as devoted a christian.

Is there any data or research that you can share that would support your claim?

Since even in this country a majority of people when given the chance to vote said "nope" to same sex marriage

one need not wonder over to the **-philia sites to look at the documented numbers of peoples and places where the Homosexual is not seen as normal .. or worse.

Just wondering, when you travel abroad do you ever read the travel advisories from the State dept?

I'm not entirely sure your statement is correct, but affording you the benefit of the doubt I will offer what I have found. Undoubtedly the tide of acceptance in the US is changing against your opinions.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/154634/acceptance-gay-lesbian-relations-new-normal.aspx

I'm not sure what **-phillia sites have to do with Homosexuals so I don't know how to respond to your comment about that maybe you can expound for me.

I do read travel advisories if I am traveling to a country I'm not familiar with or am aware that there are issues that concern me but I'm not sure how that relates to the topic but I'm sure you will tell me.

Look Youtube is fun and all that but you really have to get your education in places beyond youtube videos.

The first thing I suggest you do is read the whole New testament yourself.

Pay particular attention to how Christ interacted with unrepentant sinners.

Next I want you to study Hitler and his ideas and acts concerning religion and specifically Christianity, that you would call him a "devoted Christian" is telling.

What was it thirty six states gave people the right to vote on this issue and they spoke very decisively in favor of natural marriage.

One of the errors you are making right off the bat is assuming that someone... anyone who might think homosexuals should be allowed to marry.... must there for think Homosexuality is fine and normal.

I would vote in favor of people to have the right to do all sorts of things I disagree or just wouldn't do, such as buying contemporary furniture or for the right to drink them self into a black-out every night.... that don't mean I see these folks as wise or smart or healthy.

Why do you make that poll a little more personal something like "Would you want your child to be a Homosexual".... wouldn't that be a telling question?

Apparently the auto-filter made you assume I used one term when I used homophilia

I think my error was trying to engage with you in an intelligent discourse.

Living where I do I have come to now many righteous folk who posses the gift of "shuck and jive" when doubt is cast (usually with fact) on their stance.

Thanks for making my point: Phelps was as no more a true christian than those who seek justification for their hatred in the bible. His opinions no more represent christianity than those of Hitler, for that matter. Edited by Gegel

How would such a question make Fred Phelps less of a scum? How would it make those who agree with him less despicable? Edited by Gegel
