Greetings everyone! We are going through CR-1 Process in Thailand.

I am my wife's main sponsor. Working on I-864 stuff now.

Briefly, if we only show my last tax return (2006) showing about 30,000 USD annual income,

from your own experience out there, will that be adequate?

(We also have Thailand bank statements, Thailand tax returns, employer letter etc. for last 3 years)

This is cause I have to pay CPA a lot of $$$ to backfile for each year. (No time to do on my own...)

Also my parents are joint-sponsors with about 80,000 USD annual income and tax returns from them too.

So they fill out I-864 A and provide the tax docs too as support. So that totals 110,000 $ for 2006. (!)

I am guessing that I will not actually need to present 3 years of US tax forms, 1 should be enough,

but you never know. Would not want to be refused on a technicality and have to start over.

What do you think? Seems like only 1 required, but more are preferable. Hmm...

Thanks! TommyT

PS I have been teaching in Thailand so letter of employment is for my job here from

past until now; not letter of future employment!

(Lost track of Timeline dates, 230 form turned in December, waiting for Interview date still)

1. I thought long and hard about if I should send in additonal years tax returns. I came to the conclusion that I didn't want to send them in any additional information that might confuse them. Therefore, since they only asked for one year, I only sent them one year.

2. Also, if your income is sufficient, why are you also using co-sponsors? You didn't indicate your family size. Unless I am missing something here, then based on the income requirements, your income would support up to a family of 5. I presume you are already aware of the income requirements:

48 Contiguous States and D.C.

Size of Family Unit.....100%......125%

1......................9,800....12,250

2.....................13,200....16,500

3.....................16,600....20,750

4.....................20,000....25,000

5.....................23,400....29,250

6.....................26,800....33,500

7.....................30,200....37,750

Good luck!

Have a read here.

It is not required to send 3 years tax returns unless you believe additional returns may help you to establish your ability to maintain sufficient income. You do however, need to list your income on the I-864,for the past 3 years.

Hi,

You only need the latest years tax return....and to list the income from the last three years returns...no need to send in any additional returns.

tommyt,

Your past tax returns, and letter of employment, will be meaningless given that you need a job in the USA in order to support your wife when you and she move here. So submitting one or three tax returns will make no difference - they all show foreign-earned income that is not relevant.

If one of your parents will be a Joint Sponsor that one will have to fill out an I-864, not I-864A. However, if your plan is to live with them when you first return to the USA then you can use one or both of them as Household Members and you and they will fill out I-864A.

To Yodrak and others, thanks for that! Very helpful.

To be honest I am still a bit confused about Affidavit of Support I-864 and Affidavit of Support A.

In my case we will live with my American parents for an indefinite period upon arrival.

I am the main sponsor, so, in that case my parents could be Sponsor #2 or Joint Sponsor.

Should they fill out I-864 or I-864 A. Actually I will just have them fill out both just in case!!!
