damn i'm glad you posted that. you've shot you're 'wild speculation' argument to sh!t. the speculation/prediction from people in the know is up to a 300% increase, and they're arriving at these numbers from actual data not wild fantasy.

as far as your personal attacks. you know where you can shove those 'big dog'.

If the speculation for a 300% increase is based on numbers from actual data, then why is it that not a single person sees those numbers as likely enough to actually be backing up 300% with an explanation of even where those numbers came from?

At least I'm not the only one that wonders.

Up to 300%. Key words: Up to. It's how headlines are generated.

the final numbers aren't in. they will be in the next quarter to half year. if the current trend remains unchanged it will mean a huge increase on premiums, some as high as 300%. speculation is how pricing is set on everything we buy.

Who's to say the private insurance companies aren't using this as an excuse to raise premiums?

I am aware the final numbers aren't in.

I want to know where the PRELIMINARY numbers are coming from. Some could be as high as 300%. Okay. Great. But why won't anyone put their own personal name on that? Why won't they release any numbers which are supporting 300%, or even 250%? Or even 200%?

I could say that we're 1000% more likely to have rainfall on the fourth of July this year than last year, but without numbers to back that up, it's not newsworthy.

i'm sure they are. they're in business to make a profit. we're still going to pay it.

why no one is signing estimates, I can't answer. but, with all the news outlets running the stories, i'm believing there will be a sizeable increase & bracing for the worst case.

I know that. But there should be some checks in place. What's to keep them honest?

Perhaps you are unfamiliar with how the big news networks work, but given that the information and handful of quoted people are all the same, it seems likely that these are all the same story, either written based off of one reporter's story or off of a single press release. No news outlet wants to be the only one NOT reporting a story, ever, because hits drive income for the news outlets and if someone heard on, say, Fox, that there was going to be a 300% increase and heard nothing more, then went to their computer and googled it, every single media outlet wants to be the one to get that hit.

This is not all the news outlets, this is one having released it and the others struggling to gain hits from search engines to keep up.

nothing. remember they 'helped' craft the legislation and made sure to write in a future bailout for themselves.

Once again why I'd rather have a single payer system.

I quoted the first four outlets, from a google search. I have yet to see any outlet refuting the estimates.

Incidentally, the ACA has put these checks in place. Insurers cannot charge you more in premiums unless they actually have expenses for actual care that justify that. If they overcharge on the premiums and are left with more than x% (forgot what the number was), they will have to pay the delta back to the policyholders.
