I came to U.S.A on H1 in 2000.

I have the documents that i filed Taxes for years 2003, 2005-2013.

I don't remember if i filed taxes 2000, 2001 and 2004.

Being new to U.S at that time, I am doubting if i file the taxes for 2000 and 2001.

For the year 2004, State owe me around $200 and I owe federal around $300. I prepared federal.

Now..I am not sure if i sent the check and the related 1040-V document.

Can you please suggest what i should do..

Thanks for your help.

You don't actually mention why not filing taxes in those years concerns you.

Are you applying for citizenship? If this is the reason of your worries (specifically the question asking 'have you ever not filed taxes'), note that it is specific to Permanent Residents. 'Have you ever not filed taxes since you became a permanent resident?'.

If you became an LPR in 2006 and have been filing ever since, there is no reason to worry. You check 'No' and move on to the next question. The years you mentioned were before you became an LPR, so do not apply to the question.

As for whether you owe the IRS or not, I don't know what to advise you, sorry. But if they tell you you don't owe them anything, hey, I'd take their word for it and do as they say content.gif

This is 2014, right? Ha, can't keep track of this, they change it every year. Statue of limitations with the IRS is five years, but they say you only have to keep your tax returns for three years. But if called in for an audit, then they want five years of tax returns.

Would think over ten years ago would be history. Since you already had your green card for eight years, no longer eligible for the marriage privilege, and if applying for US citizenship, you don't need to bring tax returns.

So what is the problem?

I was just worried whether to write "Yes"/"No" in N400 for the question "Do you owe any taxes to Federal,State and Local?".

I called IRS few weeks back and they told there is nothing due on my account.

I was just browsing the N-400 again couple of days back and i got a doubt.

Thanks for clearing it up..
