Filed MFS but transcript shows SINGLE

Hi everyone,

I just want to know if anybody else encountered the same situation as I did. I filed my tax return last month did MFS and put NRA on spouse SSN and sent it via mail. Today I got a copy of my transcript which I will use for AOS but transcript shows single as filing status. I have my copy of tax return and it does shiw I filed MFS so I am really confused right now. Hope someone can share their thoughts or similar experiences.

Are you sure that the transcript is for your 2013 tax return? Maybe the IRS sent you a transcript for 2012.

Yes it is for 2013. I also have 2012 and 2011. It really is weird why they put single if I filed MFS. My accountant actually told me to put single if he is outside the country, never been to the us and is non resident but everybody else was saying I cannot file single if I am married so I filed MFS and did the NRA. Anyway will call irs tomorrow first thing in the morning and will update this post so that it may help others who gets into this situation as well.

If you filed MFS the transcript should have come in you and your husbands name. Did it?

Yes I got it from online

If you filed MFS the transcript should have come in you and your husbands name. Did it?

No it did not. It just says single. Did u file MFS?

Just called IRS. They made the mistake of inputting my info as single when I filed MFS and all deductions were correct. Its so stupid that I have to go and correct this myself by filing an amendment and paying $10+ for shipping when it was their mistake at the first place. Anyway the operator didn't even know that amendments won't show in the tax transcript so you have to get an record of account transcript to show change along with the tax transcript.

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal
