My hubby's I-601 waiver was approved on March 12, 2014 (I received an email, and also checked the status online). It's been a week and there's no sign of an actual approval letter from the mail, even though the uscis website says it was mailed out the same day, the 12th. How long does it usually take to receive the actual hard copy? My attorney said it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to a month for just the approval letter in mail....is this correct? And then we have to wait again for the instruction letter? Does the attorney also get the instruction letter or does my hubby get it? I see so many people who are approved are back home in about a month. I'm feeling like this wont be the case for my husband. Any answers or advice regarding this? Thanks in advance.

Thank you. We filed the i601 on September 20, 2013 using an attorney. I'm trying to continue having patience, however seeing that a lot of people get their approval letter and instruction letter in 1-2 weeks is not helping.

I have seen it takes that long to receive the letter depending on your country then it all goes quickly after that. The hardest part is over so happy for you.

Hubby is in Guyana, South America. I have not heard of anyone so far from that country who has done a waiver, so it's not always easy to ask around about how long this or that will take. Thank you for your reply.

How did you get the embassy to email you with updates? I went to the website and I found the email address to ask questions but nothing so they would email updates.

It depends on which address official communication was being sent to. We found that it was necessary to put my US address on the case since our RFE never arrived to my husband in his country. As such, our approval letter arrived 2 days after approval.

If you don't get the letter within 15 business days of approval, then your spouse can call and have the letter reissued. However, I'm a big fan of emailing the consulate directly so that they know you're waiting for them to contact you.

Thanks, he is actually just going to call the embassy and hopefully they will tell him over the phone what he needs, instead of him waiting on snail mail from them.
