I am only eligible for PIO since I married an Indian, but I was told at the FRRO (foreign regional registration office where they process PIO and OCI in India) that OCI is going away and PIO is what everyone will be getting. No idea how true that is or not but that is what they told me last year when I asked about differences in PIO and OCI.

I am the US citizen (born in US), my hubby is the Indian and he is coming on the CR1. But I can get the PIO so that I don't need a visa to travel to India to visit inlaws!

OCI is lifelong PIO is for 15 years.

People born in india apply for OCI,PIO is usually applied for children or spouse of OCI holder.

For OCI you pay more fee than PIO,OCI takes longer to process, needs more scrutiny.smile.png
