Well, "Kaydee," the problem with that logic is that many, many of them are citizens and many have been here about 10 years. I know because I did all their paperwork for airport passes this summer at MSP airport.

The other issue is that these immigrants aren't like other immigrants, for the most part. The Polish flight attendant in the article is probably not a refugee. She probably chose immigration. These immigrants left their homes because they are fleeing something, not because they're seeking out the American dream. When you have immigration like that, culture clashes are going to emerge. Don't we want to be a country that accepts those people even if it causes a little friction in the first generation?

Yes it is ridiculous - but surely if they choose to behave this way then not only will they lose money, but they will find it increasingly difficult to find employment as a cab driver.

Kaydee, what part of I worked until very recently at the airport featured in the article and registered these cab drivers for security badges where I had to examine their citizenship status, how long they'd been in the country, and why they had been allowed to immigrate at all, AND had to do this for every cab driver who works at the airport don't you understand. I think I have a better idea of how many are citizens and how long they have been there than, well, pretty much anyone on the planet.

EXACTLY! Talk about finding a non-issue to get all offended and nationalistic about.

The only people the cab drivers will hurt is themselves - they are the ones who will lose out on the fares. If its that big of a problem commuters, and the airport authorities can choose to use a different company. So where's the problem?

These cabbies are hardly a national movement - and all the indignation over this story is as ridiculous as all the mindless shrieking about the country being islamicised (whatever that means) because a congressman (who happens to be a muslim) decides to take his oath of office on a different holy book.
