Well, apparently it has become "NEWS AGAIN" as evidenced by the fcuking date of the referenced article as this is a new story about the apparent ignorant and biased position of the resident, ungrateful, and possibly illegal Muslim immigrants, as evidenced by their obvious attempt to embarass and distort our laws to demonstrate what they percieve as insensitivty to "ISLAM", and therby not acclimate to U.S. traditions and customs......

I say they should be sent back to Somalia, or where ever they came/come from........

have you been refused a cab by a muslim? i fail to see how this situation could incite you so much. people complain all the time, some of it makes the news (especially if the buzzwords are right!) does not mean that you need to fluck fluck fluck around everywhere!

Well, "Kaydee," the problem with that logic is that many, many of them are citizens and many have been here about 10 years. I know because I did all their paperwork for airport passes this summer at MSP airport.

The other issue is that these immigrants aren't like other immigrants, for the most part. The Polish flight attendant in the article is probably not a refugee. She probably chose immigration. These immigrants left their homes because they are fleeing something, not because they're seeking out the American dream. When you have immigration like that, culture clashes are going to emerge. Don't we want to be a country that accepts those people even if it causes a little friction in the first generation?

The article discusses some cab drivers fro Somalia that refuse to accept passengers carrying either: dogs, or alchol beverages.....

What law says they have to transport someone they don't want to in their cab? Oh, that's right, the EXACT OPPOSITE is actually the law. They have the right to refuse service to anyone. There are plenty of non-muslim cab drivers that can atest to the times they've refused any number of potential passengers.

Yes it is ridiculous - but surely if they choose to behave this way then not only will they lose money, but they will find it increasingly difficult to find employment as a cab driver.

If I drove a cab I wouldn't want any dogs in it either. Who knows how clean the dogs are to begin with, and what if they have fleas? There are also a fair amount of people with allergies to pets, including dogs, who would have an allergy attack if in the cab after a dog who had shed even a small amount or left some dander.

I'm not against dogs in general, but as stated, I sure wouldn't want to be driving them in my cab.

As to alcohol, you're also putting yourself at risk depending on what your passenger does. Granted most will probably leave the bottles or whatever unopened, but what if they decided to open it for just a quick taste or something? Doesn't that put the driver liable for open container in a moving vehicle?

In fact there are practical reasons for refusing dogs and alcohol in cabs - in fact MOST cabbies get pissed off that they have to take their cabs off the road for 2+ hours to have the upholstery cleaned after a dog takes a whiz on the seats, or a drunk vomits on the floor.

Come to think of it... all sorts of hotels and restaurants routinely refuse to allow customers to bring their pet dogs inside. And lots of American businesses won't allow you to bring alcohol onto their premises.

Plenty of cab drivers will refuse to take a customer with any kind of food or drink. And plenty will refuse to allow any animals in their car. It's their car, it's up to them - they're the ones losing out on business, so if they don't want the fare... fine.

I cycle to work a lot, and when I'm working late I'm entitled to a cab home. If I want a car to take me AND my bike home, I have to find a driver who's willing to put the bike in his car (we're talking London black cabs here, usually, so there's no problem fitting the bike in, it's whether they're willing to take it or not)... some of them refuse. Cab drivers will refuse to take a fare if it's going out of their way or to an area they don't feel like going to. Maybe someone would like to write an article complaining bout that and suggesting the cab drivers should all be deported... or maybe not, because there's no story there, at all.

And whoever said they wouldn't want a dog in their car... I agree, I wouldn't either.

Similarly the post office has a sign up at the "pick-up window" that they refuse service if you approach the counter while on your cell phone.

I've a shrewd inkling that this wouldn't be nearly so "offensive" if it didn't involve the words "muslim" and "immigrant"
