I noticed you have a supplement for visits to the US. I was just looking at this the other day, and I'm not sure how I should fill it out. I've made dozens of visits to the US in the past 6 months and many many visits the rest of my life that I couldn't possibly document properly. Any experience with this?

Ask me again in a week and a half. I'll let you know if they accepted my format or not.

I can't find the thread, but there was a discussion about this before. I would document what you can, and estimate on the rest, maybe writing a note that says, e.g., 1993-1998, various, and explaining that you travel there often. They've got to be used to it. 3000 mile long peaceful border that until very recently didn't even need a passport, and lots of border towns.

I put the last 3 ( those were all fiance related ) but I put nothing before that. I've been in an out, travelled to, from, and through the US a LOT since I was really young ( Talking 6 months old here ) however the last time I was there for more than a few hours was.. probably when I was around 11 years old. If they question it, I'll mention the fact, I'm not trying to hide it, but for the life of me I can't remember the dates from that long ago.

Honestly, at this point, I don't remember how I got it. I may simply have taken it off of this site. HOwever, because I can't remember, I filled it in anyway. The most it's gonna cost me is the cost of printing a couple of pages, right? I am 99.9% sure I don't need it.

Thanks Moz.. Better safe than sorry I guess.. I know it was not included in either package from Montreal, and i was quite sure it wasn't needed. Best of luck for next week.. although it would not appear you need luck at this stage, as you are all set to go! :) I'm praying for NO SNOW!

One Question Moz - did you do your DS-156 (computer / online generated) in duplicate (as in signed 2x's)? I can't see anywhere on the form that says you need 2 signed copies. I have one original, one copy. What did you do?

When I did it online, I printed two copies off and then made a copy of one for my own files. I can hardly tell the difference between the photocopy and the printed copies, but as long as the signatures are original then that's all that matters, I would think. Regardless, if I remember correctly, I think that these forms should be signed at the embassy, right? (I don't have them in front of me)

Concerning the DS-156, we could find nothing in the instructions on the form or from the Consulate that require the forms to be signed in the presence of a Consular Officer at the interview. Anyone else hear anything different?

hi there,

the forms shouldn't be signed. you're supposed to do it in their presence. this info was provided in packet 3 and was mentioned in the checklist that you were supposed to return to them. i made a photocopy of it, just in case and that's what it says.

i do have a question... i have my interview on jan 16 and wanted to know what evidence you're all attaching as evidence of engagement to your fiance. is it just the engagement ring bill? is there anything else that i should include?

Going back to the checklist sent with Packet 3, on the last page (page 3) it says:

"C. STEP THREE. Please complete, but do not sign, two copies of the enclosed Form DS-156, Nonimmigrant Visa Application and complete the single copyof the Form DS-156K Nonimmigrant Fiance(e) Visa Application. Bring these along with all your documents at the time of the visa interview."

Now, as we all know, instructions for the DS156 have changed, but in the little note that came with Packet 4, it did not say anything about signing or not signing, only that handwritten forms would not be accepted.

I figure the worse that can happen is that I sign it on the spot.

Hi Monique,

What kind of evidence are you providing as part of your evidence of engagement as required by DS 156k?

I guess I must have missed the part that asked for proof of engagement, lol.

Ok, just went back and read it. We don't have a ring, so I would assume that my evidence of engagement would be the updated letter of intent. As far as what other evidence I am taking goes, I will be travelling with:

photos

postmarked cards/letters addressed to the both of us

my Visa bills which show me spending in Baltimore

hotel receipt with both of our names on it

It's more proof of ongoing relationship than anything else, I know but honestly, I'm not too worried about it. (Let's hope those words do not come back to bite me in the #######.) From the stories I have read, quite often, all people get asked for is pictures ... if that.

THanks Monique for the quick reply. Me too! I totally missed that part on the form about the evidence of engagement until today. Dont know why but this whole time, I think I read it/thought I read it as evidence of ongoing relationship til today so I wanted to check what you were doing. I'm bringing a copy of the bill for the ring but it doesn't have my fiance's name onthe bill for some reason and am also brining photos and bills as well.

Good luck to you on the interview!
