What did science win?

Pretty much every argument for belief in any religion whatsoever. But please don't hesitate to hold any belief that you desire, that's strictly your call.

Forget religion for a moment, what was there before the Big Bang? What went bang? Where did whatever reacted with whatever come from? What was in the space before the universe? Where did all of this come from? I don't think science can take it to the first step because there is always one step before that. So if there was nothing, where was it and what happened to it to make something? Heavy stuff.

Back to religion, or faith in a creator, I don't think that science proves that there is no God. We think like humans in human reality. Maybe none of this is real.

No one can prove there aren't several gods either, ergo anyone who says god is the one and only, is wrong, by your premise.

You can't prove a negative. You can't prove the non-existence of that which does not exist; and the absence of such proof can't be used as evidence otherwise.

We don't know if God or gods exist. Some believe, some don't. For believers, science doesn't get in the way. Perhaps science contradicts some of what is written in the Bible, but that probably only bothers someone who takes he Bible literally. Many look at the message and the idea that is being conveyed, not that every little detail is literally what happened, especially regarding the Old Testament. We don't have much information about Jesus outside of the Bible, but their is ample written about Christianity and its spread in the early days. Many were convinced and believed and many died for their beliefs during those first few hundred years. However you look at it, it was a very powerful and compelling belief.

Yes indeed there has been a lot written about the Bible, in fact every major story in the Bible was written or held by religions pre-dating the Bible.

But again, believe what you want to believe.

I have no intent to turn this into a thread about my beliefs. I think I asked a few relevant questions even though some of them sound a bit out there. Where did the beginning seed come from? If nothing existed, where and how did it start? I think that's a fair and most logical question.

Fair enough although I meant the 'you' in the all inclusive since and not just you specifically.

You did ask relevant questions but the 'which came first, the chicken or the egg' is one that has only a theoretical answer. And it is, as aptly pointed out, not a question of proving God or Gods don't exist. Some things can only be theory, and scientific theory changes in relation to constant testing, probing for proof current accepted theories or in light of new findings, new theories.

Unfortunately for every religion, current and past, they don't have the same flexibility. I understand the old dodge that the Bible is not to be taken literally, but it has to be understood that is really a modern way to stay a believer despite the many glaring problems with the book, allegedly handed down straight from the Almighty Creator, yet filled with so many glaring inconsistencies with now known science.

The earth is not flat. Oops!

The earth is not 10,000 to 20,000 years old. Oops!

There were no camels in Biblical times. Oops!

Now we have scientific evidence of the big bang, strengthening the theory. Perhaps one day that will lead to knowledge of what came before but in no way does it lead to evidence that there was a God or gods generating what came before. Sorry if I misinterpreted what you said to indicate that was your belief.

The "out there" questions are good = They are a primary driver in human development.

Google and do some reads on "String theory". (or) Try to watch a few "Through the Wormhole" episodes. They have a few which provide a good understanding. I can't recall the specific episodes off the top of my head but you can easily identify them on wiki.

(in the meantime) Bottom line = No1 knows whence we came. (but) I'm a fan of the thought = from another dimension our dimension was spawned. (notice I didn't use the word "created" so not to unsettle the Atheists tongue_ss.gif )

& I am a little surprised at all the guff made about the Bible was wrong here & the Bible was wrong there. So what? Science is wrong here & science is wrong there. History and Science evolve with investigation, discovery & revelation. It's a good thing = it keeps us searching and as a result = we grow.

& Why so much focus on the past? Why not focus on the effect...? Afterall - Everything in this universe heads one ultimate direction = Death.

You can't disprove God anymore than you can prove God. I also think its important to keep in mind the existence of unanswered questions does not prove magic.

Michio Kaku did a speech at the local University. I went and observed. But then, I've always been a fan.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 [a]He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not [b]comprehend it.

6 There [c]came a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 [d]He came [e]as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him. 8 [f]He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.

9 There was the true Light [g]which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His [h]own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, 13 who were [i]born, not of [j]blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.
