OK, what is the price of living without outside subsidy? Is it anything over $16,105/yr?

I wouldn't like to have to live on that but I live in CA. What's required is affordable housing, a job that pays a living wage and then personal responsibility to ensure you live within your means. That is going to vary depending on where you live, obviously. It's better for everyone if everyone has a fair shot at being able to support themselves. Most people are more than willing to hold down a job but holding down a job, maybe two and still failing to earn enough to house, clothe, eat and maintain health without assistance is a recipe for disaster. Most people are honest, hard working and only looking to be able to provide for themselves and work on the opportunities to do better and provide for a better future for their children. Sapping the life out of the working poor and giving them no hope for improvement is objectionable in a modern society.

I was looking for a house cleaner. for a relative. $20/hr for "light" cleaning is what I encounter. . If you get someone who will work for $10 background check says they have a record of some sort..... In this country if you sent the undocumented democrats back where they belong many people would be working for a lot more. ... or even working at all. I feel so sorry for the folks that never got a degree and undocumented Democrats will be taking every job they are able to do. Or almost every job..... just pull that lever every other year in November. Vote Democratic and all will be right.

I don't disagree with you. My feeling is that the minimum wage needs to be increased responsibly and realistically with a view to the impact it will have on businesses. In my opinion this is better left to the state government to decide.
