I had a lot of Aeroplan miles saved up and decided to use them to buy some household items- pots and pan set, knife set, slowcooker.....when i bring them down they will be brand new....will i have to pay duty or fees on them even tho i technically got them for free kinda sorta?? Maybe include the aeroplan receipts with my CBP form??

Nobody cares whether you're pots are new :) The stipulation had to do with new electronic items like TV's and computers. They don't want you showing up at the border with 15 new TVs trying to say they're all for you (Because likely you plan to sell them), same goes for computers and other electronics.

Have you list of belongings prepared and you should be fine. 90% of the time the US border guards don;t even look at your stuff or your list.

Agree with Udella&Wiz. I had brand new items never out of the original box and just wrote it down on my list of stuff. The CBP didn't look at the list or even look at the uhaul let alone make us open it. (Crossed at Sweetwater MT from Alberta.)
