Agreed. Docking pay for these sorts of things is ridiculous and should not be tolerated. If one requires a uniform, safety shoes, safety glasses, specialized training, etc. then these expenses should be borne by the employer.

I drove limo for a few months when I was in college and the owner only wanted to pay me for the duration of the booking. However, sometimes it took me an hour to get to the client and an hour back to return the car after the booking. Sometimes a flight would be delayed and I'd be stuck at the airport for an hour or two. I told him what he charged the client was between he and the client, but I would be paid from when I picked up the car and when I dropped it off. He paid. I would not have continued driving for him if he disagreed.

What I don't understand is why people accept the abuse/theft? Do they not realize it is wrong? I mean, these are not the types of jobs you'd do most anything to keep.

People punch in 20 minutes early before they are suppose to and you have an unexpected expense that can wreck havoc with the bottom line.

I'm fairly certain that I specifically voiced my belief that it is illegal and wrong for a business to steal from its employees.

There are easy remedies to keep employees from clocking in early or riding the clock at the end of the shift in violation of policy. It's called disciplinary action. It works, too. Yes, that is real life experience. I've managed this problem quite successfully in my first job here in this country. Did not break a sweat managing it and did not break any wage and hour laws and did not steal from hourly employees. Ever.

Your post demonstrates that you have no idea how this actually works. Or you do and you are part of the wage theft problem and think that it's okay. You line of argument is certainly not a valid excuse for the wage theft that occurs all too often in America. Wage theft is wrong. And it is illegal. Plain and simple.
