Originals of proof of meeting and NOA2 lost by Greyhound...

I am in dire need of reassurance; I am in tears and am freaking the heck out as I type this.

My fiancé was here over the Christmas holiday, and he left on the Greyhound bus on January 1st. His bag was put on the wrong bus, and now it is missing.

That bag had the original tax transcripts, NVC letter... and worst of all... the NOA2 and my original plane ticket stubs and baggage tag from when I flew to Montréal to visit him last April.

Worst-case scenario, he doesn't get his bag back... I know that we'll have to pay $200 for a new NOA2, but what about the ticket stubs and baggage tag? I made copies of them for the I-129F package and still have a copy of them from the copy I made from the package, but I know that at the interview, they can ask for the originals. This wouldn't be enough for them to deny the visa, would it? There's no way I can get the originals back if Greyhound does not find his bag.

Also, if anyone has ever traveled by Greyhound and had their luggage lost/misplaced on another bus, please share... he's already made claims on the bag, and all we can do now is wait.

So much for me thinking that sending the documents with him would be safer than mailing them...

First stop worrying. The evidence you may have lost if the bag isn't found was all original evidence submitted to USCIS right? If the consulate wants to see originals, can yuo show a lost baggage claim from Greyhound? AND do you have more evidence to show of the on-going relationshihp besides that which you sent into USCIS for the original petition?

I'm sure the bag will turn up, but in the worse case scenarioit doesn;t, I think you are still good to go. You will need to replace the NOA2 for adjusting status and that will not be a happy check to write but if you have more eivdence you will be okay I am sure. Hopefully someone going through your consulate will offer more reassuring advice about what evidence is generally asked for.

The baggage tag and plane ticket stubs were copies I made from the originals for the I-129F package. The originals I then sent on the bus with my fiancé, and it is those that are lost, along with the NOA2, and my tax transcripts and a copy of the whole I-129F package. Yes, we have other proof of meeting, like my fiancé's bus ticket receipts from his two trips here.

Another reason I'm so scared is that all my information is in there, name, address, Social Security #, copy of my birth certificate... I'm scared sh*tless of the possibility of identity theft.

Thanks for commenting... I'm just not of sound mind right now...

I can understand how freaked you are right now. I was paranoid about having my fiance fly back with my bank statements, tax returns, etc. You might contact a credit reporting bureau (TransUnion, Equifax, Experian) and see if they can give you any guidance regarding identity theft issues.

Also, call Montreal (have heard they are difficult to get in touch with but might as well try) to explain the situation and ask if, at the interview, you only have copies of the original documents, if that is acceptable.

I have never lost a bag on Greyhound, but have had luggage lost on airlines several times and have always gotten it back.

Good luck!
