I am 47 almost 48 and had a vasectomy in 2004. We want a baby(hope son), has anyone had experience with either? Wife is 25 almost 26.

Please let me know, I do live in the Sacramento area, of California.

You'll need to start off with a consultation with a specialist who can do a basic assessment of how successful a reversal is likely to be - it's based on the age of the original operation, how it was performed (the type of cut the surgeon used)

IVF will cost a lot more than a reversal ($20,000 or more) but the reversal will be quite expensive ($8000 ish) and most likely neither will be covered by insurance.

Of course if the reversal does not work then you have to go with IVF so you'll be adding those costs together.

It might be possible to set it up so that they extract some sperm during the reversal operation which you save in case you need it for IVF - which could save you two operations.
