I posted a lot of questions (and received a lot of great help, advice, etc.) during this entire K-1 process and our interview is finally almost here! It's the morning of March 19 (Wednesday) in Moscow. My fiancee is currently on his way to Moscow for his medical exam (03/18) and then the interview.

I am so nervous! I can't even express how much I want it to be approved. I feel like my nerves are the worst now that the interview date is finally here, because I am so scared about something going wrong!

For those of you who completed the process, how did you deal with those last few days leading up to the interview? They're incredibly exciting, but also terrifying.. can't wait to hear a "I got approved!" from my fiancee...

*fingers crossed*

It was nerve-wrecking! We just stayed inside mostly because it was terribly cold weather. But the first day we arrived in Moscow, we went straight to get his medical done. That took ALL day. We got food and went back to the hotel room to rest. The next day we just walked around but stayed inside mostly because the weather was still teeth-chattering cold. The next day was his interview and we were up early and in and out in no time at all. Approved and happy! Actually everyone who were petitioning for immigrant visas were approved. Good luck to you!

Thank you so much for your support! I am a nervous wreck, haha, even though I know the outcome is totally out of my control. Also he scheduled the medical for the day right before, which I wish he would have scheduled it like you did... hopefully everything goes well!

After your visa was approved, how long did it take you to receive the visa in hand?

Also any idea what will happen if we are not approved? ugh I will be so heartbroken if that happens.

He received it five days after his interview. Your fiance should be able to get the medical results on the same day. I wouldn't even think about not being approved! Unless there's something seriously wrong with your documents, or you don't have enough finances to support him (and don't have a sponsor) then, I'd say 9 times out of 10 you will be approved. Just read all the reviews of people who went to Moscow. I read them before my husband's interview and it made me feel so much better to see all these good reviews. I don't remember reading any bad reviews, everyone seemed to rate their experience 5 stars. That gave me a lot of confidence.

...I was with my fiance when the CO said "You're approved" and pretty much neither of us heard what he said after that. It was like a tsunami sized tidal wave of pure relief washed over us and flattened us on the floor! I'm sure it'll happen for you. Keep smiling like in your pic!

Aw, thanks for your support! (By the way, congrats on your wedding!) :)

He landed in Moscow, and we're now in the under 48 hour waiting time period, which is amazing, but also nerve-wracking, as you know. :) I've also heard many good things about the Moscow embassy, but you still always just worry about that little possibility that something might go wrong...

I don't think I'll stop worrying until he's actually here, haha.

Did they mail the visa right to you? Zhenya said he selected some option where he can pick it up back in Ekaterinburg. Did you all do something similar? How did you know when it was ready? =)

Really I wasn't that nervous to be honest and I don't know why? I guess I figured they really don't have a good reason to deny her the visa. She was nervous but since I went with her it helped. You might want to tell him to be there early if it is an 8:30am appointment. When we got to the Embassy at 7:30 there was a line 50 yards long! The interview itself was very easy and lasted about 5 minutes. She got her visa a week later in the mail.

I'm sure everything will go well for you!:) That Embassy has very good reviews and the consular that did our interview was very polite. Good Luck!:)

@paws057:

Thanks so much for your support and encouragement! :)

Also thanks for the heads up about the long line. I passed that information along to him. :) He's checked into his hotel in Moscow, and we both just can't wait for this interview!

The medical exam is about 12 hours from now, and the interview about 36 hours from now.

I am glad that the whole process went smoothly for you, and that the people at the Embassy were polite! :) I wish the same for him tomorrow. I think we're both a little anxious just because we want it to be "yes" so much and of course the decision is in someone else's hands, so that always adds to it.

Thanks for the congrats! It was a small and simple ordeal and I loved it that way! We went to Galveston and Downtown Houston for our honeymoon (later we'll go to New York when things settle) and it was a blast! We even got "caught it the rain" which added to the romance. smile.png

Be strong! It'll go well, I'm sure. We'll all be celebrating with you soon! Does Zhenya by any chance speak English?

They mailed the visa to the Pony Express office nearest him. That is probably what Zhenya is talking about. He will be able to check his status here https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?eQs=o/iS8zDpeAKjMWCuebHqOw==

By the way, if you'd like you can read my review of the Moscow Embassy experience. http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=149189 Pardon the spelling errors. I was so excited while typing it and I haven't had time to edit it.

Good luck to you and be sure to post about experience!

Always double check your documents and forms. Not only do you get delayed by RFEs and Checklists, but the time it takes for them to review the new items you send could be used to approve more applications. Save yourself and others valuable time!

Current Status: NVC:
-Assigned and Received NVC Case Number, IIN, and BIN April 18, 2014. (100% sure case # was assigned today because I called twice and it wasn't assigned in the morning when they opened but in the afternoon it was)
*Could not provide email then as case was still being updated in their system
-On April 21, 2014 I was able to provide my email and beneficiary's.
-On April 28 I was able to fill out DS-261
-On April 29 I received and paid AOS Fee (at 1pm)
-On May 1 I received and paid IV Fee (at 1pm [became available]), also AOS Fee shows as PAID
-On May 5 IV Fee shows as PAID and DS-260 became available and was completed. Also, AOS Package Scanned by NVC

-On May 7 IV Package Scanned by NVC

-On May 28 AOS Accepted

-On June 2 IV Accepted/Case Complete

-On June 11 Interview Email Received

-On July 3 Interview at Moscow

Note: Medical Exam scheduled after interview letter received by calling the specific clinic, earliest appointment was 2 weeks ahead)

-Visa approved, came to us, got greencard, sadly things didnt go well and divorced. Last I hears she was still in the US and got a full greencard (I notified USCIS of divorce though)

I like small, intimate weddings - I'm sure it was a great time!!! =) Yes, Zhenya speaks English, but he's still at what I'd call an intermediate level. I usually speak in Russian to him, and he will respond in English. His comprehension came sometimes take time, but that's normal when learning a second language. :) I am the same way when someone speaks Russian to me, though I'm getting better.

I hope we'll all be celebrating soon! Right now he is on his way to his medical exam, and in about 25 hours, he'll be at the embassy for his interview. I am so excited. (I know I've said that a million times!)

Your review of the Moscow Embassy was pretty positive and thorough -- thanks for sharing! :) ~ Samantha

My fiancee, Elena, traveled to Moscow with her 4 yr. old son for the medical and the interview. They had their medical screening last week and her interview was today.

All was fine except for the fact that they decided some spot on her chest X-ray warranted testing her for TB! So she ended up going in for the initial tests over the following three mornings and she has to have a culture test done as well - a six week process with an additional one to two weeks for getting the results back to the US Embassy! She was still able to go through with the interview this morning. That went quite smoothly, as has everything else so far! She was approved for her (and her son's) visa, but instead of moving ahead as we were so eager to do, we now have to sit and wait for two more months!

After all the planning and preparation, we were as prepared as we could be! And it payed off! I can't complain about how the process moved along for our application. But neither one of us saw the TB curve ball coming! She is perfectly healthy with no history of TB or exposure to TB! That one wasn't on our radar!

It is what it is... Such is how things go when working with mindless bureaucrats!

My only comment to you would be to not worry about the interview! That seems to go quite smoothly, from all the accounts that have been relayed here. Thanks in no small part to the wealth of knowledge and experience on this forum! I know that I found it to be invaluable!

I hope that all goes well for your fiance tomorrow! I am sure that it will!

Randy

I will definitely let everyone knows how it goes! :) I can't wait! It's 7 hours out now... because it's at 8AM Moscow time. His medical exam went really smoothly today, thankfully. :)
